Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Brancato.
Brianna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
At 19 years old, I was convinced by a life coach that going to hair school would change my life. So I dropped out of college and enrolled. Shortly after graduating from hair school, I took an intensive makeup course and the rest is history. I’ve been in the industry for over six years now. At 21, I worked with my first celebrity, met an up and coming singer/model who I work with closely – we traveled for appearances and she always challenged me creatively on photo shoot.
At 22, I met my mentor/work mom/great friend Mary Curran, a New York based celeb hair and makeup artist with an immense amount of talent and knowledge. Because of Mary, I achieved two major goals I could only dream of at that age – being a key hair stylist on Taylor Swift’s star stunned ‘Bad Blood’ music video and traveling to Panama for a REEF campaign. Today at 26, I balance my time between amazing freelance opportunities and working at LA’s top curly hair salon ‘Capella Salon’ where I found another great inspiration in my industry, Shai Amiel, salon owner and curly hair expert to the stars. Point is, you are only a good as the people you’ve worked under.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The hardest part about my journey is that it’s been all trial and error. I had zero connections when I first started, also no clear path. What got me to where I am today is never saying no and being comfortable out of my comfort zone.
What else should our readers know?
As a salon stylist, I cater to successful working professionals, mostly women. What sets me apart is my customer service and attention to detail. I pride myself on my professionalism and my fierce work ethic.
What were you like growing up?
It was no surprise I became a hair & makeup artist, I’ve always thrived creatively. Anything that had to do with drawing, painting, sculpting I had a vision for it. Academics were not my strong suit so it naturally made me a more quiet kid, never wanting to participate in school. I didn’t find my voice until I realized quickly that my success would be base on my social network.
