Meet Brenna Karis of Karis Family Daycare in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenna Karis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brenna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had wanted to open my own daycare for many years. I was drawn to the idea of working for myself, following my own philosophy of childcare, and hopefully making a difference in the daycare industry. When I first moved to LA from Boston I worked as a nanny. I spent two years building up a network of families until I was confident that I would have the clients I needed to open my own business. It was this network of incredible families, plus the support from my friends, family, boyfriend, and mother (who moved to LA to help me start my daycare) that has helped my dream of opening a business become a reality. I would never have guessed that I would have been able to accomplish this goal so quickly and smoothly, and it gives me hope and excitement for the future as I hope to grow and expand my daycare.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Generally, things have gone very smoothly for my business. We had a few delays when we were going through the licensing process, and now we are working harder than expected to fill our toddler spots (2 yrs+). Apart from that, I am constantly amazed at how quickly and easily my dream has become a reality.

Karis Family Daycare – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Karis Family Daycare is a home daycare in Glendale, CA. We specialize in childcare for children between the ages of 8 weeks and 4 years. With years of experience and education, our staff has a great understanding of children’s milestones and needs and we have developed our program to encourage the growth of the whole child. We pride ourselves in open communication with our clients. We use an app, Brightwheel, throughout the day to update parents on their child’s schedule, send photos, and send important messages and reminders. We want parents to feel involved in their child’s care and see what they are up to all day (and we can’t help but snap tons of pictures of the adorable kids in our care!) I have spent years working with children and crafting my own style and philosophy of childcare and I am proud of the work that we do.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is being completely satisfied with my work, feeling fulfilled, and living a comfortable life. I feel most successful when I get positive feedback from my clients and when I see parents and children coming and going with smiles on their faces. I know that childcare is an important consideration for families. I want my clients to feel comfortable and safe leaving their most precious possessions in our care and when I see that, I feel like we’ve done our job successfully.
