Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica I. Morales.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My “redirect” in life came after I stayed with my mother at a palliative care facility during the last stage of Alzheimer’s. Across the months, I learned so much about human beings who were nearing their passing and those who were present alongside them. I experienced how far love can take us when it is what gets you up to take on another day even though your heart is in pain. A period of darkness took hold after mom passed.
My entire life, I was the fixer-upper, but this time, I had a knowing that I would need to reach beyond myself to make it through. I kept hearing the words, “don’t ever let go” and so I never quit on myself. I felt a nudging to go back to school. I knew there was something bigger than me working to put me on the path I was meant to be on. I was in the valley and it was here that I was to make a choice, to be stagnant or to begin climbing out of it. It is where I learned many lessons for living a meaningful life.
My mind began to shift into a new identity and a new career. I took coursework and read what drew my attention relating to God. I kept being pointed towards learning how the mind works. I studied neuroscience, hypnotherapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Positive as well as Spiritual and Organizational Psychology. I began to see the purpose and value of “renewing your mind.” It became my passion to help others build a growth mindset that thrives through challenges.
We don’t have to wait till the future to find our happiness. We can live it now. I approach life with a willingness to embrace the new. This has led me to working with corporations, unions, medical groups, private clients and those interested in peak performance techniques, activating flow and execution of goals.
I was completely at a loss and super vulnerable. Even so, I was determined to fight for me. I saw a mountain before me and thought, “how can I climb it?” I learned relentless motivation from my mother as she never backed down from adversity and was a fierce advocate for my brother who is mentally challenged. It is now that I have also come to understand when turmoil happens, it is an opportunity for me to stretch my character because there is something new I have yet to master.
When I do that, then I am equipped to handle even more. With spiritual maturity as with success, comes more responsibility. If you have not built the character or skills you need to maintain it, you can lose it. It is valuable to see struggles from an asset-focused perspective. “This may be painful right now, but I know it is the setup for building me up!” Those with a growth mindset view setbacks as feedback, something worth learning from. I believe you should never waste your pain because you felt it for a reason so make it count.
What sets apart those who succeed from those who remain stuck, is perception and how the unplanned for or “unknown” is accepted or rejected. Too often we want to remain “comfortable” even in what causes displeasure because it is a “known” to the mind. We must push through the discomfort to get ourselves comfortable with healthier choices that lead to meaningful living. This is what beYOUbloom is about.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Be YOU Bloom – what should we know?
BeYOUbloom helps people thrive not just survive. When a flower is in full bloom, it is flourishing. It has grown into its ideal self in the same way you can. I am passionate about working with corporate groups. Over 70% of workers are unhappy at their jobs. The mind begins to adapt to survive, and it becomes your pattern of being and feeling even outside of work. If we build a positive organizational culture, it will positively affect employees’ families and social experiences. How they feel at work is what they take home. Happier employees are simply more productive with a vested interest in helping the company succeed.
What is unique about me is my training as a Hypnotherapist coupled with nearly 20 years in marketing and business development. I have managed/trained sales teams with a focus on developing trust and rapport within organizational structures and clients. I enjoy studying behavior and how the mind functions in different scenarios. I’d say I am a Mind Strategist. Human beings go about their day largely operating from the subconscious mind, or “auto-pilot.” You don’t think about how to do your job or drive. You just do it.
It also means you are susceptible to triggers because you are not actively aware of your thinking. I help others become conscious of their subconscious tendencies so that they can make intentional positive choices. When someone is optimistic, open and present, creativity, intrinsic motivation, and flow increase. The individual can then deliver their optimal skills and best self at work. Companies prosper when they invest in the personal well-being of individuals, including self improvement workshops.
Recently, I concluded a 3-month program for performing artists who are members of the Screen Actors Guild. They attended my workshops once per month with about 30 days in between. It takes about 30 days to seed a new way of thinking, about 65 days to hard wire it, and at 90 days in, we evaluate any changes. The goal was to create new neural pathways using positive intervention tools and techniques to enhance personal well-being and career achievement.
When actors build a growth mindset, they become risk takers, are flexible to take redirects playing the character in different ways, heighten listening skills, allow for unplanned moments that set their performances apart and stimulate flow, when you lose a sense of time and space immersed in what you love doing using your best talents.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Having resilience is a quality that is vital to flourishing. It is also tied to patience. At one of my workshops, a young lady asked me, “how can you be so positive when so many bad things happen in this world?” I asked, “why are you allowing life to happen to you when you can happen to it?” Her face lit up, and she got it! We often forget that we can take back our power position and stop being on the recipient end of the woe is me mentality. I cannot change what others do, but I can keep what others do from changing who I strive to be.
I can make a choice of who I want to be and by what principles I wish to live. That includes, how I wish to feel and how I decide to respond. Human beings have a tendency towards the negative, and they want to talk about it often. My friends and I give each other 5-7 minutes to vent, and then the person venting has to transition to what can be gained. If the venting person is stuck in a pity party, the supportive friend gently reminds the other person to refocus to what can be learned. Repeating this technique over and over trains your mind to be optimistically inclined and solution oriented. The brain is the most valuable muscle to coach into shape!
Another one of my popular phrases is “be your 1st cheerleader,” that is your first “like” and your first “heart” when you post or when you do something you are proud of. One of the actors I worked with does a shimmy-shimmy dance after her auditions, even her not so great ones, so as to place a positive association to auditioning and reinforcing an attitude of gratitude. These techniques facilitate feelings of personal fulfillment. They also impact your thinking to help pull yourself out of seasons of challenges and develop quicker bounce-back skills.
I will leave you with two more memorable phrases when your inner self talk is fueling doubt, fear, or worry. “Reverse the Verse” and speak into your life power words the mind responds to, “I Can, I Am, I Will!”
