Today we’d like to introduce you to Barry Brewer.
Barry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a stand-up comedian, actor, and music producer. I was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. I began my career in stand up 16 years ago. After receiving a standing ovation after my first performance, I knew I had found my purpose.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue a career in entertainment and have been grinding ever since.
Has it been a smooth road?
In the entertainment business there are always challenges. Trying to make it as an actor requires auditioning and a big part of that is the rejection that many aspiring actors face. While I have successfully booked a number or commercials and been on TV many times, I have also experienced my fair share of rejection. I have been able to overcome that obstacle, however, by always remembering my source. I truly believe that God has given me a gift and that what he has destined for me, will be for me. I rest in knowing that, no matter what opportunities I may not be granted, no one can take what God has for me.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Most people know me as a stand-up comedian. I host a show every Friday night in Los Angeles at The Comedy Union. As an actor, I currently have a recurring role as Eric on BET’s new hit drama, “Games People Play”. I also put out content on social media. One sketch series that has recently went viral is entitled, “When the Whole Crew is Stupid”.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
One thing I love about LA is the weather. Growing up on the Southside of Chicago, we have real seasons so when it’s cold, it’s COLD.
What I hate about LA is the traffic. You literally have to plan to leave your house at least an hour and a half early to get anywhere. You have to pack a lunch and a change of clothes to go up the street to the grocery store.
