Meet Azul Corajoria of Azul Cora Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Azul Corajoria.

H!i Azul, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi! I’m a Virtual Health Coach and Personal Trainer and I live in Los Angeles. Long story short, I first really became really interested in nutrition and fitness in college because I had gained weight and hated the way I looked and felt. I thought happiness was a certain number on the scale so I started dieting and working out every day. I would look in the mirror and pick my body apart. The diets and extreme fitness regimens would work until they didn’t. The diets turned into disordered eating habits and my workouts weren’t sustainable and would burn me out. My relationship with both was terrible. My relationship with myself was even worse. I hit an all-time low after college – mentally and physically I just couldn’t do it anymore. I knew something had to change.

I’ll never forget the moment I learned my most important lesson: wellness starts from within. How you treat yourself. How you talk to yourself. How you see yourself guides all your actions and choices.

My relationship with food and fitness ultimately changed because my relationship with myself changed. I don’t exercise and eat well in spite of myself anymore. I exercise and eat well because I care about myself. I deeply care about my body – not aesthetically care. I realized that when you do things from a place of self-love, your experience is much more positive and welcoming.

Fast forward to now – My mission is to help people heal their own relationship with food, fitness, and themselves. To shift the way we currently look at exercise and nutrition (as a burden, something we do as a punishment, a means to an end) and instead see them for what they are: acts of self-care. I want people to care for themselves because they believe they’re worth taking care of.

That’s why I started helping other women change their relationship with food, fitness, and their bodies.

I believe you can learn about nutrition and how to eat a balanced diet without the shame, guilt, or judgment that comes from “bad” vs. “good” foods. I believe you can learn about exercise and fall in love with movement without obsessing over calories burned or losing weight.

I don’t want women to shrink, become smaller, and take up less space. I want women to take up MORE space. Get stronger. Own our power. You can’t do that if you’re always hungry, feel weak, lack confidence, and don’t recognize the things that make you uniquely and amazingly you.

So that’s why I became a Health Coach and Personal Trainer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Healing is never a smooth road. Progress is almost never linear. I think the expectation is that it will be, which is where I believe most people get stuck. Especially when it comes to body image and the health and wellness world, we’re fed so many lies and toxic messages – it gets really difficult to navigate. Most of the fitness and health and wellness industry uses fear tactics and insecurities to sell programs and products. It’s a very “comparative market” and what I mean by that is, influencers use their bodies or before and after photos to convince people to workout a certain way or to eat a certain way, and I find it to be less and less “motivating” and more harmful. I found myself sucked into that trap a lot growing up – putting my happiness on hold until I looked like x person or until I weighed x pounds. I learned that the trick isn’t hating yourself into loving yourself, that rarely works long-term. The trick is to love yourself into taking care of yourself. Also adopting a growth mindset and seeing each “failure” as feedback instead has been so eye-opening.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Azul Cora Wellness?
Within my practice, I teach people how to move well, eat well and live their healthiest lives with simple science-based workouts that build strength and confidence alongside easy and sustainable nutrition and lifestyle changes – no guilt-tripping, no counting, and no dieting – so that they can improve their relationship with food, fitness, and most importantly, themselves.

I primary coach my clients 1:1 via Zoom.

I have a course, Overcoming Emotional Overeating that I launched last year to help anyone who struggles with overeating and emotional eating.

I’m also launching a new 12-week program for women to build confidence and strength from within soon, so get on my email list to learn when that comes out! I’m super excited about it.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the magic of Christmas mornings as a child. Waking up to a big breakfast, a warm and cozy apartment, all the lights and decorations, the anticipation of gifts, the music, how everyone just always seemed so happy, the wonder and curiosity of how Santa did it all… Christmas as a child was just one of a kind.
