Meet Jose Sebastian Gomez of ATK PLN in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Sebastian Gomez.

The short story goes something like this: a restless 17-year-old Cuban artist and skateboarder from Miami starts a skateboard company called “Rhythm,” moves to California with some friends, sells said company at 20 years-old to K2 inc. in order to create a commercial production studio called “Shilo” with the love of his life Danielle Gomez.

Three magical and precocious kids join the fun. Then, he gets to direct some amazing campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands. He wins an Emmy award along the way. 18 years later, Shilo joins forces with Golden Globe-nominated Reel FX studios to form ATK PLN.

The journey continues. A very condensed history from then till now, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Through all the ups and downs, I’ve had a very joyous and storied adventure so far!

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth sailing the entire time? Not exactly. Lots of mistakes and lessons learned. I think for me the biggest struggles were always trying to balance the joy of being creative with the responsibility of running a business. Learning how to avoid things I was not passionate about and being okay if those were missed opportunities.

I’ve had the privilege to be involved in many different businesses–but if they didn’t align with my passions, I would pass on them. I truly believe if you’re not insanely passionate about the business you would be better to move on. What is a success without happiness?

Tell us about ATK PLN. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I am the Executive Creative Director for ATK PLN which is a multi-disciplined creative production company for commercial and entertainment marketing. What we are most known for is an award winning level of production across an intersection of work including animation, design and live-action filmmaking.

What I’m most proud of as a company is the growth we’ve had over the last two years of our existence. Not only from a sales perspective but more importantly from a team perspective. We have some of the most talented animators and artists in the business, and seeing this team come together to produce Emmy Award-winning work right out the gate is something magical. It truly feels like we have a “dream” team and I think everyone in the office senses that.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
For the future, we are looking to enhance and strengthen our own “brand” as ATK PLN. We are currently a young studio/company. And ultimately, we see ourselves as an outlet for creativity and we’d like to harness that into other areas that continue to put more of our vision out into the world. We want to continue to think outside of the traditional agency production company model. We have endless ideas that need to be realized whether it be of service to other brands and agencies, or our own brand. Stay tuned.
