Meet Ashun Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashun Williams.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
There is no “perfect,” there is progress and progress is what matters most. My journey into the world of health and wellness truly began when my son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is hard to describe what having a child with a disability feels like. The hardest part is feeling like you cannot “fix” your child. You go through the motions and do what the experts tell you, but it is still scary to trust the process.

My son received amazing treatment and therapy, and in correlation, with all of this, I began to educate myself on how movement and nutrition affected not only children with disabilities but human beings in general. As I began implementing daily movement into my child’s life as well as an even healthier diet than he had been consuming, I saw immediate positive changes.

Years down the road my husband and I separated, and I became a single Mother to three young boys. I had a certification in Pilates, and I loved teaching before I became a Mother. I went back to my Home Studio (The Pilates Institute of Southern California) and quickly grew an amazing following and clientele. My love for movement is one I have had my whole life has been a dancer and gymnast growing up.

The professionals that surrounded me and taught me are wonderful, talented and educated women. I learned from the absolute best around. My understanding of the human body came easily, and I found that I had a knack for helping people heal through movement. I was able to help women pre and post natal, men and women working through injuries and even clients suffering from fibromyalgia.

The one piece I wanted to learn more about was nutrition. In 2017, I signed up for a program called Integrative Nutrition. Through this program, I became a certified health and nutrition coach. For the past year, I have made it my mission to spread awareness of self-love, self-care, and self-awareness. I do not hand my clients a nutrition plan and send them on their way.

I work closely with my clients to educate them on their health and on nutrition and fitness. We do blood work to look deeper into what they have going on, and we talk about what is going on in their lives that may be affecting their choices surrounding their mental, emotional and physical health.

To me, wellness is all-encompassing, BODY, MIND and SOUL. Knowledge is power, right? So my job is to give my clients knowledge about themselves, to set realistic and attainable goals and to send them out into the world knowing they have the ability to get themselves healthy. I spend most of my time currently training my clients at Controlgie studio in Manhattan Beach.

I work with my nutrition clients in their homes; I do lectures for small businesses related to nutrition and stress reduction. What is my end goal? I am working currently on opening a facility that focuses on my beliefs and my mission. I love connecting people and educating people which is something I will offer in my facility.

I plan to bring the latest and greatest health, wellness and fitness anything and everything to the south bay. Longevity will be the focus. I look forward to having a one-stop shop that will house all of the things I so strongly believe will help people not only look their best but feel their best no matter what their age

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having two sons on the autism spectrum. Learning g how to navigate life with two special needs sons and one typical son who is in the middle of the other two. Navigating becoming a single mom. Learning how to balance my career being a single mom.

Putting myself through nutrition training while working and maintaining the structure of my kid’s lives and schedules. Learning how to implement my training after completing my certification through integrative nutrition.

Believing in myself and knowing that I know how to help others learn how to help themselves

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
What sets me apart from other trainers and nutritionists is that I really get my clients involved in healing themselves. I don’t want people reliant on me, I want them to be reliant on themselves.

I specialize in Pilates, health and nutrition coaching and also helping clients find a “sustainable lifestyle” perfectly suited to them based on their lives and their visions

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Always learning. Always listening. Truly listening to people. Understanding and connecting with people and also connecting people.
