Meet Ashley Maura of TwoMermaids Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Maura.

Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started about seven years ago photographing my family and it grew from there. It has always been a major passion for me and growing to this point was a lot of learning, hard work, and focus.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a bit of a bumpy road. I took a two years break from all clients to focus on photographing my family and learning as much as I could. I don’t believe in charging people if I’m not doing incredible work, but I didn’t want to give work away so I focused on learning as much as I possibly could before jumping back into clients and all of that. We moved three times including out of state so I had to start over with clients three separate times. The out of state move was the hardest, no friends or family to help with the kids while I did sessions so it really limited me to what I was able to do. But I chugged along and now I am here.

Please tell us about TwoMermaids Photography.
I specialize in weddings, elopements, and couples photography. I think I am most known for my sunflares and romantic moody vibe I’m able to translate in images from my clients to the print. The connection I’m able to get from my clients makes it so you can’t even tell if the couple is a complete stranger, it looks effortless between them. And that’s always my goal. To capture a connection.

I think what sets me apart is that focus on connection, as well as my massive care for customer service and vibing with every single one of my clients. My biggest happiness comes from making others see how truly stunning they are when they just live in the moment in front of my camera.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I think if I had to start over, I would worry less about studios work than I did in the beginning. It’s not where my heart is and I adore photographing people in their element, so I wish I had learned that a lot earlier.
