Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Flores.
Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing makeup in 2012, my reason for becoming a certified makeup artist was to empower others. Not only doing makeup but being a person they can open up too and listen. I have encountered conversations of recently being divorced/breakups, bullied, and many other situations that may have made some think they have lost their beauty.
I love encouraging everyone to try something new to bring back that light of what truly makes them beautiful. It does not have to be a full face of makeup, it brings me joy being able to apply a pair of lashes or even just a light lipstick to see a smile of my clients face and saying ” wow! its been a while since I have seen her”. In 2019 myself and my mother opened Image Co Make Up in Uptown Whittier on Greenleaf and Philadelphia. A place everyone is welcome to come in shop their favorite makeup brands, get their makeup done or even come in sit at our round table to just talk. We also carry Brands from local women business owners and open our space for pop up events for networking “women encouraging each other”.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not necessarily, me and my mother didn’t know the first thing to opening a business. Of course, there were slow times, but eventually word got around. I started building my client list with Whittier locals (weddings, quinces, photoshoots, band senior portraits) even women coming in to get their makeup done for an evening dinner on Greenleaf.
Please tell us about Image Co Makeup.
Image Co makeup opened in June 2019 and is located in Uptown Whittier. We carry makeup and offer services such as makeovers, eyelash extensions and more. We are mostly known for our open environment, being able to come inside shop and have a great laugh.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I wouldn’t have changed anything. Yes, we could have done our homework before opening but everything we have is a blessing. An amazing learning experience that just came upon us.
