Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Aurora.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I don’t remember much about my childhood, I honestly think I dropped in from another planet! But what I do remember very clearly is that I always felt an undeniable calling to move somewhere far away and do something amazing. That somewhere far away being Los Angeles, and that something amazing being the music, and other creative projects I’m working on today. Since day one I can say that I definitely love to put on a show, to make people watch and get them excited, get them hype and make them feel like the world is theirs. That’s what I’m channeling these days when I’m making music at NRG (my studio in North Hollywood) and it’s the kind of energy that I always felt inside of me, Now I get to share it. I would definitely say that persistence and a connection to something bigger than me have helped me get to where I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life was handed to me, that’s for sure. I remember life being somewhat comfortable growing up, but it wasn’t without sacrifices. My mom always worked very hard and I had to make some sacrifices on my part as well. And I do remember a feeling of not belonging, which may account for why I don’t remember much else of that childhood. Where I grew up kids were living very average lives and doing average things, anyone who wanted more was ostracized. I spent many years doing things that had nothing to do with who I am and felt like distractions on a soul level. I longed to live a different life and I would often get lost in daydreams to cope. And once I did manage to find my way out here in LA, I had to navigate past snakes and shady situations in order to find the right friends and support system. Being a Young woman does come with its own unique challenges in a city such as LA and I have been through it for sure in that regard, but I think it’s made me much stronger.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
So I would describe myself as a “pop-hop” artist. My music is a blend of pop and hip-hop, these were two favorite genres from an early age. I sing and rap on the same track, I like to use different sounds and flows that people wouldn’t expect from me. Music has always been my passion and I love when I get to hop into the booth and create something totally fresh and unique, but always still super catchy and radio ready. I also write all my own music, every word that I’ve sung or rapped so far has been written by yours truly. It’s the ultimate outlet, and I write almost every day. I’ve been in the studio for the last year creating some really hype tracks, club bangers, confident vibes, songs you can work out to, speed down the freeway to, do your makeup to, get lit to, whatever. It’s a lot of fun and I take it to a place that isn’t meant to be super serious, just all about living in your own world and feeling divine. I’m about to drop a new single with a sick music video, so watch out for that!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is definitely the place to be for an upcoming artist. Everyone’s out here, the best studio in the world (NRG) is out here, it’s definitely an industry town. And the scene is so much fun too, if you know how to party without getting lost in the sauce, then the sauce is here, it’s delicious and you should definitely come out and try some! But there’s potential for a dark side too, so while I do recommend coming out here as an upcoming artist, you have to make sure your mind is right first. You can’t let anything distract you from what you came here to do, or pull you off your path.
