Today we’d like to introduce you to Arynton Hardy.
Arynton, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I bought my first stock at 12 years old and was constantly selling electronics online or to my friends. I knew I always wanted to be in business, but I wasn’t sure specifically which area. There are so many different aspects to business and finance that picking just one can be difficult.
After interviewing dozens of people in college while vice president of the finance society, I settled on wealth management. It is one of the few industries that is entrepreneurial and involved with people while still worrying about the numbers. In other areas, you usually just get to pick one – either you’re behind the desk or in front of it.
After spending a few years in New York City working at a top bank in downtown Manhattan, I knew I could do better both for myself and for my clients. I moved back to Los Angeles and set up my office in the heart of Silicon Beach to start my own firm – Hardy Capital Investments. I am happy to say that every client I brought to the bank came with me under my new business as well!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My father passed just before I moved to New York and it was incredibly difficult to begin a new journey while seemingly leaving the rest of my family behind. It was a complete leap of faith. I didn’t even know where I would be living let alone if I would succeed at the job there or not! However, I consider it to be one of the defining moments of my career. It taught me to be powerful enough not just for myself, but for other people as well.
I had a client who lost their mother and I was managing the inheritance for the children and grandchildren. Whereas most people might shy away and “get down to business” we spoke on the phone for over an hour and we both shared some tears.
While I deal with money everyday it is not always the solution to everything. Sometimes you just need to listen.
Alright – Tell us about your work. What should we know?
I started this business in an effort to do what’s in my client’s best interest always. I found that across the industry, oftentimes an advisor from a bank and a client’s needs can be misaligned due to incentives. I work independently and act as a fiduciary to ensure this doesn’t happen. This is also a part of my core values when I established the company.
Hardy Capital Investments is a boutique Wealth Management and business consulting firm. I work with people to invest their finances appropriately and create financial plans to stay organized on the path of achieving their goals and objectives. When working with a business I work with boards and executives to set up employee retirement plans, manage foundations, and ensure they don’t trip up on any compliance laws they may not know about. I also work with startups as an outside advisor or CFO to help them make better decisions for their business or when dealing with investors.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents deserve a great deal of credit not only in my business but my entire upbringing. Both of my parents worked in public service, my mother a doctor and my father a policeman. The idea of helping other people and giving back to the community has been instilled in me since the very beginning.
Every Thursday I volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club to tutor and mentor students and recently taught a five part-finance class to elementary school students at the International Children’s Academy.
At the end of the day, business is just about people and if you have helped just one person you have created value in the world.
