Meet Antoine Martel of Martel Turnkey in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoine Martel.

Antoine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started investing in real estate while I was still attending Loyola Marymount University. While I was there, I went to a real estate seminar with my brother and my father, and I learned everything about real estate investing and the different ways to make money.

After that seminar I tried to flip houses in LA but quickly realized that I didn’t have enough cash and it was too scary for me to continue. This lead us to look out of state, where we could acquire rental properties for cash flow. With my father’s money and approval, I went to Memphis and found a house that needed some work. I bought it, renovated it, rented it out, and then did a refinance and paid my father back.

Once I had graduated, I asked my father if I could continue growing a rental property portfolio and he approved. I spent the rest of that year growing a portfolio for my family.

Once we had built up a sizable portfolio, friends and family members wanted us to do the same for them instead of investing in the stock market. So we began selling them homes out of our portfolio and helped them create passive income out of state.

Today, we buy, rehab, and rent over 100 homes a year and we are going to continue helping more people invest in real estate out of state.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been. Just like any business, there are always hurdles to jump over. Everything from having super low appraisals, to lenders not wanting to finance us, to contractors not showing up, to people overcharging us. Everything you can imagine has happened, but I keep on moving the ship in the right direction.

Martel Turnkey – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We buy, rehab, rent and resell rental properties all across the US. We are known for helping people invest in real estate passively through rental properties out-of-state. We help all of our clients with financing, insurance, and property management. All of our homes are sold to our clients with tenants place and with rehabs fully completed.

The property management companies that we refer our clients to are companies that we use personally in these markets, and we’ve been using them for many years. Something that differentiates us from our competition is that we always sell our homes for their appraised value or less meaning you will never buy a property from us that is above retail value.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think that someone who is successful is somebody who loves what they do and they help others achieve something that they’re proud of. I wouldn’t consider the richest man in the room to be the most succesfull. I think that if people can find that inner happiness by doing something they love every single day while also helping others achieve success and happiness, that is a successful person.

Pricing:

  • We sell all of our homes for $70,000-100,000
  • The typical downpayment for our properties is around $20,000
