Meet Annalisa Nardone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annalisa Nardone.

Hi Annalisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a voice-over actor residing in Los Angeles! I moved to LA in 2018 for a job working as an occupational therapist. Once in LA, I signed up for improv, character, and writing classes as a creative outlet and a way to meet people. When I saw a Groupon for an Intro to Voice Over class, I decided to go for it! I have always thought it would be a dream to voice someone like Louise Belcher, but I never thought (or knew how) to pursue it. I immediately was hooked after the class. It was a true Oprah “Ah-Ha” moment. I loved being in the booth and making the characters on the page come to life, so I kept learning as much as I could about VO. I was always a goofy kid playing pretend and making up voices, so it truly is a dream job for me!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a road with a lot of detours. I started working as an occupational therapist in 2013 and never saw myself pursuing a career in the arts. In the health care world, I definitely forgot to nurture my creative side. Once the pandemic hit, I had more time to audition, take online classes, and learn my strengths and weaknesses. I definitely struggled with believing in myself in the beginning. VO is not an easy road since it is a competitive industry and you have to be prepared to face a lot of rejection. It’s important to have FUN while you are working and trust your instincts about character choices.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My favorite voice-over projects have been the animation ones. I love the variety of voices I get to do as kids/teens, adults, and animals! I recently narrated a children’s audiobook which was a huge challenge since I had to create a different voice and personality for each character. This whole journey has taken a lot of time and courage, and I am most proud of taking a chance on VO!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
As for a lot of careers, the pandemic required people to work remotely. Many VO actors had to get equipment to make home studios rather than going in person to record. I do think studios will prefer actors to come into record once it is safer, but I think it will be much easier to continue recording remotely. Animation and video game projects allowed people to safely work from home and provided a variety of jobs in 2020, and I think we will see a lot more of those projects in the future.
