Meet Anna Vescovi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Vescovi.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I began attending dance lessons at the age of five; pink tights, slicked bun, the whole works. There was freedom behind the expressive movements and artistry of ballet. I was very young when I insisted on pursuing a career in the industry. Moving from home at sixteen, I received training under Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet and Royal Danish Ballet. Each sweat-laden day amounted to the hope of a company contract. With time, passion dissipated into frustration. I began struggling with the concept of each accomplishment falling short greater possibilities. Nothing was satisfactory.

By the time of my 19th birthday, I left the industry with a quest for creative individuality in the arts. Throughout my childhood, there was a lingering passion for painting and illustration, curbed by the rigor of the ballet world. I decided to take action, plunging headfirst into the unknown: college! Now a Fibers major with interest in surface illustration and textiles, I’ve taken a fresh approach in embracing a positive environment, new experiences and the challenges they provide. I am finally living life in color.

Please tell us about your art.
There is intention behind each piece I set to a canvas. I want my audiences to feel the same joy as I do throughout the creative process. For many people, the pivotal connection between a positive mind and a positive life is severed by daily routine. As an artist, it’s my responsibility to create pieces which that evoke elation in my audience, a temporary distraction from life’s obligations.

With recent creations, I intend to develop their composition throughout my time as a Fiber’s student. I’ve recently been interested in geometric prints and oriental floral arrangements through the application of bold, pigmented mediums. Each day, new discoveries are made; in terms of the direction I’m headed in, the sky’s the limit!

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Through nearly 15 years in the ballet industry, I’ve discovered valuable lessons I wish to share with those around me. The work-environment (especially the art industry) is cut-throat. It’s easy to dwell on inevitable disappointment and rejection. With time, it can be difficult to escape the grim bubble of self-doubt. Those willing to embrace the silver lining of discouragement are destined for success in their craft. Above all, it’s important to acknowledge what your heart is telling you and trust that intuition. Take risks, welcome positivity and surround yourself with uplifting individuals. Our steadfast courage to break boundaries is a resolved correlation of the life we choose to lead.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Many pieces are posted on my website or Instagram account. Designs can be purchased on redbubble in the form of cases, pillows… you name it, they’ve got it!
