Meet Anna Spearman of Techie Staffing in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Spearman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Anna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child, I always requested the latest gaming gadget to entertain my love for technology. My favorite gadgets in elementary school were the Gameboy, Wii, PSP, HP Desktop, and any gadget I could get my hands on. In sixth grade, I received my first brand new Macbook laptop. I finally quenched my thirst for technology when I participated in the Rockin’ Robots Robotics summer camp, which propelled my interest in Computer Science and robotics.

I grew up in Culver City and attend Culver City Schools until 8th grade. Beginning in 9th grade I was accepted to Marlborough School which introduced me to STEM, Computer Science, and Robotics. My future Robotics instructor Mr. Whitman suggested I attend the Rockin’ Robots Robotics summer camp. As a result of this experience, I joined his Marlbot Robotics team at Marlborough School. Upon entering Marlborough, I met with my counselor who suggested based on my Math and Science scores that I explore STEM-related classes. He also suggested that I switch from Spanish to Mandarin Chinese, which would help me in the tech world.

After graduating from Marlborough, I attended the University of Virginia and pursued a Computer Science major with an Entrepreneurship minor. While at UVA, I studied abroad at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. I visited China for an eight week Mandarin Chinese language immersion program. I studied Mandarin Chinese for 4-years in high-school and 4-years in college. In the summer of 2019, I joined Kinside a tech startup as a summer intern. Kinside’s Co-Founder Shadiah Sigala was featured in Forbes as one of 50 women-led startups who are crushing technology, she inspired me to be an entrepreneur in the tech industry.

During the second semester of my senior year at UVA, the pandemic hit, and I finished the rest of my Senior year remotely in Los Angeles. I quickly realized the rapidly dwindling of Junior Software Engineer and Product Manager roles, however, I saw the wealth of Senior tech talent job postings across all industries specifically industries thriving due to the pandemic. My ultimate goal was to be the Founder of a tech company, so I thought, “Why not start now?”.This led to the birth of Techie Staffing, a technology staffing agency.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle has been identifying new clients. Unlike some of my competitors, I don’t have family and friends that are employed by tech companies and startups. I’ve realized a lot of new recruiting agencies work primarily within their own networks. My personal network does not include decision-makers.

The other obstacle was funding. I decided to utilize my college graduation gift money and Postmates delivery job to fund Techie Staffing. I continue to deliver food for Postmates in the evening after finishing my day with Techie Staffing. When you are on a very strict budget, it is imperative to think creatively. I built and coded my website, filed all of the business paperwork, and connected with over 7,600 professionals on Linkedin.

I am confident that my daily relentless and consistent business development efforts will render enough clients to sustain Techie Staffing. We are in search of companies that will give us an opportunity to prove ourselves and allow us to partner with them in building out amazing tech teams. My primary goal for 2020 is getting my foot in the door and showcasing our top-tier caliber of candidates we currently represent. I’m looking forward to the journey ahead.

Techie Staffing – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Techie Staffing specializes in direct-hire technology roles for technology departments nationwide. I identified a team of 8 Senior Technical Recruiters with years of experience sourcing, vetting, and interviewing top-tier technical talent tailored to companies’ unique requirements.

We have access to hard-to-find talent that internal recruiters don’t have the bandwidth to identify. We reduce the timeline and improve the efficiency of the hiring process for these vastly growing companies. My team of Senior Technical Recruiters is an empathetic and compassionate team that has proven success in the tech space, with a strong technical network. Our entrepreneurial team of Senior Technical Recruiters enjoys a percentage of the company profit. We are most proud of providing candidates with the best opportunities for their livelihood.

Techie Staffing also researches clients prior to meeting in order to provide that customizable experience suited for those companies’ needs. What sets us apart from other agencies is I am a technical founder that understands various tech stacks, has a Computer Science degree and Entrepreneurial degree, can speak their language, and has a great eye for successful tech talent. My future goal is to cultivate relationships with Senior technical candidates who are willing to mentor aspiring technical professionals.
