Meet Amena BelledeSoleil of Basique Opulence Wellness in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amena BelledeSoleil.

Amena, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Basique Opulence Wellness was born out of a desire to have a product that was not only optimal for use on highly textured hair (as I am also licensed cosmetologist who specializes in natural texture) but also provides wellness benefits via essential oil delivery through the skin and aromatherapy via inhalation. Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies, so what we put on it, is integral to living our best lives with ultimate well-being.

I mixed my first batch of Ultimate Conditioning Butters and Ultimate Treatment Oils in 2012 in my mama’s kitchen before I even gave it a name. I was looking for a better quality product to braid and twist my client’s hair with that would soften and strengthen the hair while in protective styles and wouldn’t build up on the hair contributing to excess breakage at removal and wouldn’t make me ill while using it. While our oils are primarily for scalp treatment both products can be used all over the body.

I am very sensitive to synthetic fragrance so eliminating as much of it as possible from my daily life was a key factor in using essential oils over fragrance. Several formulations, packaging changes and new blends later, I began selling to my clients from my hair studio in 2013 and online in 2015.

We now have international customers that I still have no idea how they found us and are grateful for each and every one of our V.I.C’s — Vibrant Incredible Customers.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think most entrepreneurs will agree on the road, no matter the industry is everything but smooth. HA!
There are smooth patches but overall its a constant evolution filled with rewards, risks, recalibration and growth.

Splitting my time between Basique Opulence and my hair studio Hair Polish has definitely impacted the growth of my product line as I’m unable to put all of my time into scaling Basique Opulence nor do I really want to because I absolutely love supporting my clients in embracing and caring for their natural hair while elevating their wellness at the same time. However, for the continued growth of Basique Opulence, I’ll have to step back a little more soon. A crossroads is near.

I get to create from a place of self-care in both businesses in very different ways which brings infinite joy and zen to my work. Basique Opulence Wellness products increase the personal care experience I provide to my clients and I am grateful for the visionary gift to do so.

Self-financing is another area of frustration but I’m determined to do this with the least amount of debt and capital waste possible which requires discipline, patience, sacrifice and a lot of energy.

I am also a mother, grandmother, partner of ten years to an exceptional man as well as a daughter, sister and friend so being present in all important areas of life is a balancing act that I often feel challenged by but it all has to happen so I press on, with love leading the way.

Please tell us about Basique Opulence Wellness.

We are most proud of providing our customers with products that enable them to increase their well-being and vitality with every use and feel good about their personal care product choices. Our focus at Basique Opulence Wellness is to offer the best all-natural products at the best prices to all that value their health.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be around age 9 of playtime with my imaginary purple butterfly friend. We’d play in my closest in our old family home in Oakland, California. Purple is my favorite color to this day and butterflies the most beautiful representation of nature’s variety of creation. Butterflies make my heart smile.
