Meet Alyssa Caliendo of A.CAL.FIT in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Caliendo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hello, Thank you for having me! My career in coaching movement and athletic development took off in 2007 when I took a position training clients as a swim instructor in NYC. After receiving my degree in Dance and Biology in 2011, I continued coaching, dancing in a company, and taking on positions volunteering under physical therapists. After spending years with clients and learning more about the recovery process in the clinic, I became increasingly interested in preventative care through strength training, postural alignment, and wellness coaching.

In 2013, I started coaching full time as a personal trainer, moved to LA, and took every course I could get my hands on!

Finally, in 2018, after nearly six years in the corporate world, I started my own personal training business and now have the incredible opportunity to personally impact every client I work with to help them create a more meaningful, passion-filled life through strength training!

Bringing my knowledge and passion to the LA community has been a dream come true!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest challenge of my career so far was making the leap from the large corporate company job to becoming fully self-employed. It was an incredible and humbling experience and I would do it again 100x over. I love being an independent business owner / personal trainer and have grown tremendously since starting my own company in 2018!

Please tell us about A.CAL.FIT.
My mission is to give creative, hard-working professionals the tools to get into the best shape of their lives.

I enjoy working with people from all walks of life however, I find that highly motivated, creative business professionals usually benefit most from training sessions, online programs, and small group coaching! When someone joins A.CAL.FIT, they’re usually looking for a solution to getting strong, decreasing sedentary related pain, increasing energy, and living a healthier lifestyle!

I would say I am most proud of my ability to inspire those who join to get out of their comfort zones as they get stronger and more confident.

When someone begins their training journey, I’ll often hear goals like, “I want to get out of pain,” or, “I want to deadlift 200lbs.” Then after about a year or so, their goals transition to more meaningful ones that have the potential to impact the trajectory of their life. At that point I hear goals like, “I want to learn how to move well so I can inspire my family to move well too.” Or, “I want to do the same activities I do now, 30 years from now.” Those are huge accomplishments and I often feel so honored to have the opportunity to help them change the course of their life.

Training with me is more than just lifting weights, it’s about finding the path to living a long exciting life with meaning and purpose.

As a certified functional strength coach, I believe my experience, passion, attention to detail, and personalized approach are the qualities that set me apart from others in my field. Helping others look and feel their best is what I’m meant to do!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have started A.CAL.FIT earlier and offered online training options sooner!

Starting my own personal training business has been such an incredible, life-changing experience. In the last two years of starting this company, I had the opportunity to personally impact many lives and gain an abundance of personal growth associated with training clients and running a business. Now that I’m here, I’m so excited to continue to impact the LA community and share my passion with those are ready to change their life.

As for online training, offering virtual sessions has been a great way to make meaningful progress while decreasing concern related to COVID-19 and completely removing commuting stress (goodbye, rush hour!). My favorite part about online training is living in the same part of town is no longer a factor in finding the perfect personal trainer that’s right for you!

If A.CAL.FIT sounds like a good fit, I’d love to hear from you!

A special thank you to all the Angelenos for welcoming me into your community with open arms! And, a big thanks to VoyageLA for having me!
