Meet Alrick Augustine of Keep It Run Hundred in South Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alrick Augustine.

Alrick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
About five years ago, I picked running as a way to lose a little extra weight I picked up. I really started to like it and stayed consistent with it. In 2017, a friend told me that I was gonna run a marathon and I told him he was out of his mind lol. He helped me train for it and in that process I fell in love with long distance running. I completed my first marathon in March 2018 and three weeks after that I started my own run club. The rest as they say is history lol

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing comes easy! Improving as a runner comes with many challenges, injures, fatigue, time management etc…but it’s been an amazing journey that I wouldn’t change for the world.

In November 2018, I quit my job to focus on running and my run club full time. It was very hard to take that leap but it’s actually been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Learning the ins and outs of business and entrepreneurship has been an interesting journey but I’m enjoying every minute of it.

Please tell us about Keep It Run Hundred.
Keep It Run Hundred is a run club I started to get my friends, family and loved ones on the road to better health. In South Central long distance running isn’t a popular thing. Growing up running is looked at as punishment when you play other sports. So with me falling in love with it and learning more about it, I just wanted to share my knowledge with my community.

What I’m most proud is affecting my community in a very positive way. No one that runs with me was a “runner” when they first started and now that’s all a lot of them want to do which makes me very happy.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was a very active and busy kid so I would have to my favorite memory is from playing basketball because that’s what I did most. Traveling team baskets during the summer was always fun. Going to the skating rink and just being out with my friends was always fun.
