Meet Alicia Nava

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Nava.

Alicia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing photography in high school, taking an after school film class. It was there where my passion sparked. After high school, I moved to San Francisco to attend the Academy of Art. I spent three years in San Francisco, where I was exposed to so much of the art world. From there, I knew photography was the only thing I wanted to do!

Has it been a smooth road?
So far, photography has been good to me, a creative outlet as well as a way to make a living. I am very fortunate to be able to do what I love every day! There were times where I felt I lacked creativity or struggled coming up with different shoots or concepts, luckily, I am surrounded by an amazing support system who would not let me give up.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I started in my career photographing more of a photojournalist vibe but I was then hired at a portrait studio and surprisingly fell in love with photographing families and children. I’ve spent eight years or so growing my style, learning and photographing families from the Bay Area now down to Southern California. Recently, I’ve purchased a photobooth (super exciting) and I am venturing into the party aspect of photography. So far, it has been so fun to attend different parties and offer people something fun to do!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Photography is only getting better and better! I think as far the future it’s important to keep an open mind and just keep learning! It’s an exciting time for technological advances with cameras and there is so much talent out there. It’s fun to be a part of it.
