Meet Alex Bemis of Bemis Creative in Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Bemis.

Alex, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been working in the music industry since I was 16 years old (so roughly 11 years). I started off booking and playing local shows throughout southern California with my local high school band. I became obsessed with the music industry, and all the inner facets of the business at wanted to be involved in any way I could.

Once I was in college, I took a break from performing music and focused on learning more about how the business operated. I went on to intern for Vagrant Records & Fearless Records where I learned all about the intricacies of operating a record label and learned as much as I could about digital marketing in the music business.

From there, I went on to intern for an artist management company called Synergy Artist Management. At Synergy, I learned what it took to manage the careers of multiple artists and what went on behind the scenes when it came to mapping out the career of an artist.

With this accumulation of behind the scenes knowledge, I figured the next logical step would be to get on the road anyway I could. To me, in order to be a valuable asset to an artist, you need to be able to think like an artist. The only way to fully understand what an artist goes through on the day to day is to experience what they experience on the road.

Once I graduated college, I landed my first touring gig selling merchandise on The Vans Warped Tour for This Wild Life. From there I went on to play for the band Seahaven as a touring guitarist for a couple of years and really got my feet wet touring around the United States and Europe.

In 2016, This Wild Life asked me to tour with them again but this time as a hired gun playing bass and keyboard. We went on to tour with Dashboard Confessional, Mayday Parade, headline Vans Warped Tour 2018 and tour all across South America, Europe, Australia, and the US.

During my time touring with This Wild Life, I discovered a love for photography and content creation and was able to implement these new skills in my professional life back home.

At the end of 2017, officially launched Bemis Creative. I focused on creating content and marketing assets for record labels, management teams, and various other entertainment-centric brands. I currently work with Equal Vision Records, Absolute Merch, Schecter Guitars and more bands than I can count haha.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road has been relatively smooth because I always think one step ahead. I always think about where I want to be in my career, and I try and break down all the steps necessary to get to where I want to be. I learn who I need to connect with, and I’ve become sharp at realizing what opportunities will bring me the greatest return.

There will always be “struggles” along the way, but I think it’s important to not let anything get in the way of what you want to do with your life. I try and view “struggles” as opportunities to rethink my game plan and try something different.

Bemis Creative – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bemis Creative specializes in creating digital marketing assets for artists, record labels, management teams, and various other entertainment-centric brands.

In short, I create social media content including graphics, photos, short videos, advertisements, and various other promotional materials, for example, if an artist came to me and wanted to release a new album, I would create all the content necessary to properly promote the release online.

Over the past year, I’ve been able to work with bands and brands I’ve looked up to since I was a teenager, and I am grateful every day that I get to wake up and do what I love with clients that I am passionate about. I am proud of the progress I have made in such a short amount of time, and I am eager to continue to grow and learn more and perfect my craft.

What sets me apart from other companies and individuals that do what I do is that I am an artist working alongside artists. I can view a project from a clients perspective and can really understand their deeply rooted feelings and concerns. I’ve been in the artist’s shoes before and can think on the same wavelength as them. Being able to connect with a client at that level produces the best product possible.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of my proudest moments is being able to create an advertisement that was shown in Times Square for an artist’s single release last year.

I’m also proud of the fact that I get to do something I love every single day.
