Meet Aggie Nichols

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aggie Nichols.

Hi Aggie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Before I started my photography business, I spent eight years working in the music and audio industry. A few years ago, I started gravitating towards my long-forgotten passion for photography and I got totally absorbed by product photography. I experimented a lot, studied light principles, composition, photography gear, and software. Along the way, clients started to emerge and I began to invest in my business. Eventually, I dropped all audio projects and focused entirely on product photography. As it is with every craft, learning never stops, so I’m continuously developing my skills and putting a lot of effort in my education. My journey has just begun and I’m very excited for what the future holds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wouldn’t be as exciting if it was a smooth road! Changing careers and running a business come with a lot of stress and challenges. At the beginning, you need to wear a lot of hats and be resourceful. I am lucky to have a background in both marketing and business, so at least navigating that side of photography came a lot easier. However, there was still a lot to handle. From client communication, scheduling, advertising, accounting, file management to art direction, pre-production, photography, retouching, and invoicing. Plus, a lot more. It takes a lot of time and effort to take care of all of that. Slower months can be a setback, too, but they happen and you find that there is always more work available in the end, so you gotta persevere.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to say that I bring life to inanimate objects via styling, photography, and retouching, which means either creating images for a new brand that doesn’t have any photos or creating images for an established brand that wants to revamp their look or release a new product. I photograph a variety of products, but most of my work includes skincare and wellness brands. Specializing in creative studio photography but also doing a lot of e-commerce work, I partner with agencies, brands, and individuals who want to advertise and sell a product. I also welcome small business owners and individual sellers who need to jump-start the online presence of their online store. As a photographer, I prioritize communication with my clients. I believe that great images are created through collaboration, so I involve everyone in the process as much as I can. Not only does it make for a more enjoyable time, but also minimizes a chance for misunderstandings and reshoots, and trust me – no one likes those.

What does success mean to you?
I think success is simply an accomplishment of predetermined goals and since everybody’s goals look different, so does success. To me, success means consistency, progress, fulfillment, and creativity. I try to set my goals in alignment with that and work towards them, which takes a lot of persistence, discipline, motivation, and the ability to adapt. The definition of success can change over time, as can our goals, so it’s important to revisit, reorganize, and move forward.
