Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Wade.
Adrienne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a natural artist born on December 25th as the sun rose. I began as a child drawing on everything. The pulse of creativity was born in me as my father, Steven Wade was an artist who is a great influence in me. In 2008, he made his transition, and everything shifted in my life. The grieving process and the celebration of his life allowed me to take a deeper look inside. My father’s essence began to speak to me as I began to realign my purpose.
Soon after, I met an artist, Wayne Kollar who managed a neighborhood art store I frequented. He got word of what happened and gifted me an art space. This place became a creative healing space. It was a magical art studio hidden in the back of this art store. A few artists had spaces there. We’d create, listen to Jazz, have fun and when we ran out of materials all the supplies we needed were right next door. This was heaven on earth!
Together with like-minded souls we opened a beautiful creative space, put on shows, curated events, classes and made a living too. This was the beginning of a beautiful movement that helped me grow, expand, express, beautify spaces all while giving back and helping to heal the planet.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Even though creative space no longer exists, I have learned to plant the seeds of love and creativity in everything I do and everywhere I go. There were times when I felt down, and on the brink of giving up, however out of those lower times some of my best pieces rose just like the plants who break through the soil into the bright light of the sun. My name, Adrienne means rich earth and my last name, Wade has to do with being in the water.
Life is kind of like an obstacle course full of openings and adversity. There are ups and downs and ins and outs, that’s what makes greatness, and sometimes you have to be willing to start over from scratch. To me art is all about making a path where none existed before, using pure imagination, having patience while making something out of nothing and even turning trash into treasure and tragedy into peace.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
My creations come in many forms from paintings on canvas, cardboard, woven tapestries, wearable accessories, talisman, murals, and garden art.
I am currently working on a wearable art collection called Soul for Sole. This is an exclusive collection of hand painted high tops adorned with intuitive symbols, patterns and colorful abstractions created and personalized for the individual wearer.
Each shoe has an encoded paint language that honors the wearer’s unique path. Each step they take becomes a step towards their predetermined goals and aspirations. My clients say they’re magical!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Success to me is finding a way to live doing what you love. I see everything as art, not just paint, paper, plastic or fabric; life is a big canvas. You just gotta open your heart and get busy. I say discover self, be self-motivated and never wait to be excepted or asked to join.
I have learned that we all have the ability to transform our lives to become magical, mystical muses when we choose to let go of convention, have faith in our natural abilities, nurture self, be totally different and never quit.
