Meet Adriana Apodaca of Noir in Palos Verdes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Apodaca.

Adriana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up in Los Angeles, I was immersed into the film industry at a young age. My parents put me into acting as a child and I loved being on set. As a grew older, I never lost that love for acting however, I knew that I wanted to create films and be behind the camera instead of in front of it. That’s when I decided to pursue a degree in Digital Cinematography and Digital Media. During film school, to practice what I was learning in the classroom, I began creating youtube videos and started my own fashion and beauty blog. After being stuck on which type of film I wanted to do, I decided to combine my love for fashion and beauty and began creating Fashion photography films.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With every career, there is always an uncertainty factor. Starting out, I’ve had to take unpaid internships to get my foot in the door of the film industry and work 9-5 jobs that didn’t allow me to be creative. After struggling with anxiety and almost giving up over making it in this cutthroat industry, I decided to work freelance as a producer, content creator and fashion photographer in the digital space. This has given me a chance to create a brand for myself in a new form of media, different from the traditional TV and Film. I’ve found my voice in social media and youtube and have started building relationships with other creatives looking for projects.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Noir story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is called Noir which means black/darkness in French. I started this company when I almost gave up on my dream of working in the film industry. My company specializes in content creation, fashion photography, and film. I am most proud that this company started out in a dark place and has now helped other small companies thrive through my services. I think that my company is different than other content creation companies for that fact that we specialize in a genre that is still relatively new, and fashion brands are now starting to rely on to market their clothes and brands in a new unique way.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played a good and bad role in my life. While I don’t necessarily believe luck is something that happens by chance, I do believe that my actions can attract good or bad luck. I believe that trying new things and maximizing my opportunities has helped bring good luck and amazing projects into my life while as dwelling on mistakes and focusing on the negative can attract bad luck and missed opportunities. Learning to be positive and optimistic in every aspect of my life has overall made me happier and successful in the smallest of activities.
