Adam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I originally moved to LA about six years ago to focus on my fitness career; I was even on the path to opening my own gym. Training afforded me the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, even a few in entertainment. As far as I was concerned, I was well on my way to the life I had worked so hard to build for myself. Then, like a ton of bricks, the silver screen came knocking. One of my clients asked me to work with her on one of her film projects and from there, the rest was history! I guess you could say that I caught the acting bug. But what started as acting, became modeling, became assisting, became talent coordinating, became artistic directing. There was definitely something about the world of film, fashion, and media that I could not shake. No matter where I ended up, no matter the location, the role, or the job, I always found myself working with and talking to the production crew, speaking to the directors, and the photographers, etc. It only seemed natural for me to take on more roles behind the camera.
After a few years gigging around town, it became apparent to me that there was a great lack of representation amongst not just the talent in front of the silver screen but also the talent behind it. I had come to meet so many amazingly talented people over the last couple of years, and each had a similar complaint; despite being extremely talented at their individual crafts, paying gigs were difficult to find without the proper connections, After speaking to the folks I had come to know as friends and learning that we were all facing similar struggles, I took it a personal mission to gather all of the dope creatives that I had the fortune of meeting throughout my time in LA to network, share ideas, and create magic every time we put our talents to use!
Taylord Productions LA was created to provide a space for creatives of color to collaborate, create and get paid for the work they put in. I am so proud of the young and talented individuals that have come together for the sake of representation to make Taylord Productions LA and honestly could not ask for a better team!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By no means it has been an easy road, but I will admit to a stork of luck to be fortunate enough to work with some amazing people who see my vision and willing to work with me in the new amazing journey.
Please tell us about Taylord Productions LA.
Taylord Productions LA is a full service multimedia production company. We work in all manner of media; short and feature-length films, music videos, commercials, influencer vlogs, photoshoots, music, etc. Our primary focus is on giving a voice, and a window of opportunity to creatives of color so that they can showcase their passions and lend their voices to projects that they can be proud to put their names on.
My entire staff is comprised of creatives of color, who are not only experts in their field of works but are amazing in their collaborative efforts. I think that what sets us all apart fro other production companies out there is our lean mean size and budget-friendly approach to project management and production.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up in Queens, NY as part of a large family, there was honestly never a dull moment for us. Life was always so full of surprises, twists and turns, but my family and I always came out of them shining! I have two memories, one for each of my dynamic parents.
One of my most cherished memories has to be of the weekend trips to Coney Island I used to take with my dad and little brother every weekend. On one of our weekends out, we wandered into an arcade with a pool table. Now, usually my dad is a quiet man, who usually stays to himself, that night my dad transformed into the greatest pool shark I had ever seen in my life! I was completely shocked and in awe at how talented he was, he did not miss a single shot! Throughout the entire game, all he could do was smirk at me, and with laser-like focus, my dad won the game, and won me a stuffed prize! I couldn’t have been more happy! Not only because he won me a toy, but because my dad showed me a part of himself that I had no idea even existed! At that very moment, I had come to realize just how cool my dad actually was!
My other most cherished memory is of a huge blackout in the summer of 2003 and the party that my mom threw when the lights went out in the neighborhood. My mom knows how to make the best of any situation (I definitely get my creative side from her). When the power went out across the city, my mom was the first to fo into action! Pulling out the BBQ pit, throwing some glow necklaces, turning on some music and turning up the party. Thanks to my moms quick thinking, the rest of the block followed suit. Thanks to my mom, we had a party in the middle of the street, donning our glow necklaces and glow sticks dancing like there was no tomorrow! All of this, just to make sure that the kids in the neighborhood had something to do to stay out of the streets. Thanks to my mom, this party was definitely the kickoff to one of the greatest weekends of my life! My mom is and has always been an amazing and giving person. I think I get much of my personality from her.
