Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Sandoval.
Hi Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Nicole Sandoval. I am a Dutch-Indonesian-Latina and was raised with a black father. I have strong family ties to Christianity being raised in the Church. My story is somewhat messy but it’s what has brought me here. It all started because of COVID, Social Injustice and Cheerios!
COVID:
I was laid off from my daytime career of 17 years and was looking for a hobby. I love candles and home fragrances but there was nothing that I was truly in love with, so I took up learning how to make candles. Many months of research later, I found my method and life as I knew it was forever changed!
Social Injustice:
I will never forget watching George Floyd take his last breath and calling my dad that night sobbing because I couldn’t believe that people still look at him with hate in their hearts. People still don’t see him the way that I do. I reached out to my small group at church and was rebuffed. No one wanted to talk about what was on my mind. At that point, I realized that this was not the place for me. I love my pastor but did not feel connected to the body of the church. Even more so when I saw many of my Christian family and friends take such extreme stances on our political and social climate. Political views were driving the faith of believers around me.
Cheerios:
As the days pressed on. My heart was heavy. I was heartbroken, tired, angry and had so many other emotions that I could not put into words. One morning I was giving my two littles breakfast (ages 5 & 4). I was so worn out that it was Cheerios this morning. They were not eating, bickering and they spilled the Cheerios all over the counter and floor. I was so angry that I broke down crying. In that moment, I realized it was the weight of everything happening around me that I was truly upset with. These moments were where I needed God’s Word and the reminder to check my heart attitude. I had never felt so isolated from “the church body” but I remembered that my walk with Christ is my personal relationship, not others, not with the church, or any institutions.
I went looking for things to place in my home as gentle reminders of His love, and couldn’t find anything that fit my home.
I then decided to place bible verses on my candles. I am horrible at memorizing Bible verses so I needed something to get me back into the Word.
This is where The Heart Attitude was born. Not only do I want to share God’s Word through my products, but my mission is to share my AUTHENTIC walk with Christ.
I am a woman of God that will challenge our institutions, government, body of Christ and beyond. All with the intention to shed light on that fact that we are called to love as He loves.
I run this business with my husband Andrew as the backbone to getting our brand out there in the community.
All are welcome with us. Believer, non-believers. We see you. We love you.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Many believers place too much value on the church and its leaders over God’s word. We work to shed light on the Love of God over the condemnation that many believers focus on when trying to share the gospel.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are known for home fragrances made with clean ingredients that bring gentle reminders of God’s word to our everyday moments. I am most proud of the community that we are building of believers that are here to share their authentic walk with Christ.
How do you think about happiness?
My walk with Christ and my family is what brings me true happiness.
