Life & Work with Granny Wowzers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Granny Wowzers.

Hi Granny, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was in a narcissistic abuse relationship. Where I ended up pregnant with my 5th child and only son. My son was diagnosed with mildly severe autism. His father moved us out of our home and into his mother’s home. Where he abandoned us after a few months. Leaving our son and me unhoused. After three years of living between my car and families couches. I was able to save up enough money to get my son and I an apt. Working with mentally, physically disabled, Postmates and disability. I have been able to maintain living housed while caring for my wonderfully autistic son. Being able to obtain luxuries such as a new phone and internet. Where I was able to finish school and become certified in mental health. Then I came across some apps where I could speak to people all around the world.

Hosting spaces telling my story, sharing my poetry. I met many prominent people who would assist me in getting published and on the radio. Going into my 2d year in my apt, I was now a published poet in a chapter book. Four of my poems published with renowned known poet and actor Michael Guinn. Global Poets Drop The Mic this is why we write. Featured on a Roku channel called Viz D Tv. I was featured in a video on a show called, This That Piece, performing my spoken word (Tired). Then I came across a man who is an app developer. He has worked in radio for over 30 years professionally. Marcel created several apps including one for Public Enemy’s Chuck D, called Rap station. Well he wanted a radio station of his own and created the apps called NuMediaTv.com where there is a radio station at the top of the app. Then he made another app called The Talk. Soon as you click on the app it plays the 24 radio station. Marcel offered me a spot on his station. Having never done radio before, I listened carefully to his directions and suggestions. Now after seven months of having my own show. Live With Granny Wowzers, listeners have been growing. Currently, we are at 7,021 visits monthly. Honestly, I absolutely love being on the radio, I put my whole show together, from music to the people I bring on to interview. Since I know what it’s like to be someone who never felt heard. My show is to help those trying to come up. New music artists, poets, spoken word. Small business, inspiring stories, comedians and more. With sincerity, I love to help people any way I can. So having my own radio show helps me be able to do that.

Currently, I am writing a fictional story based on my story. Where’s David? Is a story about narcissistic abuse, abandonment, being unhoused, autism. Single parenting and struggle. My book will have you repeatedly saying “Where’s David?”. You will read the triumphs with my son as well as my own at the end. I have “Where’s David ?” T-shirts. I am selling to fund my book process to be a self-published author. Then very recently, I have been giving an opportunity with my church, Promises Church. To lead a monthly virtual poetry class. In conclusion, all I have been through as an older mom of a wonderful autistic seven years old son. One thing I can never stop doing is fighting. Fighting for a more accepting future for my son. To help as many people as I possibly can in multiple different ways. Helping to a fault most of the time where it puts me in the red a lot. I strongly believe if you are genuine and don’t have your hand out constantly. Others are more willing to help you. Put in work to change your situation, even if it doesn’t happen quickly. It will eventually happen if you don’t give up. Everyone matters and your story is valid. That is me Granny Wowzers ♥️.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a very long dragged out road. Struggles where living in my car with my very young autistic son. Between my vehicle, storage unit and families couches. Once I was finally housed and was able to afford internet. My next struggle was getting past my anxiety to speak on audio apps. Soon as I did the easier it was. Then networking with people who could actually help me. All of it was a process. However, the end result has been being a published poet, radio Personality, certified in mental health, leading a poetry class, and soon to become and author of my own book.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

What I am most proud of I… well that is easy, my children. My four adult daughters, learning exploring, life through everything thrown at them. My beautiful grandchildren, three grandsons, one granddaughter. Then my one and only son who happens to be seven years old right now. He teaches me so much about life how to be an advocate while respecting him. My son has me learning everything I can, so he will have a more accepting future. Even though he does not speak at this time, he taught me new levels of communication. Because of my son, I have spoken to many other wonderful people with autism. Learning how they feel going through life. So I can better respect and help my son. Ya, I am so incredibly proud of all my children.

How do you think about happiness?
Watching people succeed and being happy. I can find true joy in the joy of others. My children’s success big and small fills me with joy. People I know succeeding, finding love, expanding family, all of it makes me happy. I have heard that means I’m an Empath, yet I say it’s something I can not control. Currently, my seven years old son fills me with the most joy. Every milestone, as he matures, this lil boy blows my mind. Then he loves so genuinely pure, he can take away any sad feeling or doubt.
