Life & Work with Cali Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cali Morris.

Hi Cali, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It’s a bit cliche, but I have been singing since I was a toddler. I would try to sing nearly every song I heard, everything from intro songs to my favorite television shows to full-length Disney songs. About 4 or 5 years ago, my parents and I decided to get a little more serious about singing, beyond just singing in choir class at school, and we sought out a voice instructor and I’ve been working with her ever since. She introduced me to her brother who is a producer in L.A., California and so we collaborated between the three of us to make my very first professional single.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say smooth but not really bumpy, either. I more/less have kind of been floating along just doing my thing, up until I met my producer, who really gave me some confidence. When someone who is in the business, working with real professional singers and artists, such as Tyler the Creator, and Mary J. Blige, tells you that you have talent and they want to collaborate to get something out there, you kind of roll with it, with your head a little higher. I guess after a few months of attempting to get my name out there and get discovered by labels and other artists, I may have a different response to this question, lol.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a vocal artist who has gone viral across TikTok and Instagram doing some cover songs and TikTok trend songs. Currently, I’m just a high school student who enjoys singing and playing piano, oh and I’ve been working on learning the ukulele and acoustic guitar as well. To date, I’m most of this single that is coming out at the end of June, it’s something I’ve practiced to get just right and I could not be happier! While I’m sure I’ll have many moments like this ahead in the near future, this one is it for now!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Honestly, that boredom or idle time isn’t necessarily wasted time. This time is absolutely perfect for creativity to flow.
