Life & Work with Annētta McBain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annētta McBain.

Hi Annētta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Rockford Illinois just outside of Chicago.

I am the oldest of five to my mother and the only child of my dad. Being the oldest of five with a single mom after losing my father tragically taught me a lot about life at a very young age. It has always been important to me to make sure the people around me are well taken care of. I have always been a provider. Which makes me the determined, hard-working businesswoman that I am today.

Having three incredibly beautiful children of my own, it is my mission in life to show them that with hard work and determination they can truly have it all.

I started my career in make-up artistry after finally getting the courage to leave my “cool” career as a radio personality to become a licensed aesthetician/professional makeup artist. Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE the microphone and don’t plan on putting it down anytime soon…stay tuned.

Since taking that leap of faith, I am now living my dream as a worldwide traveling, celebrity and award-winning makeup artist.

Since my first client five years ago, I have traveled the world doing make-up for award shows, celebrities, weddings, TV shows, movies, editorial shoots and more. I also opened two luxury salons in the Chicagoland area, a couture bridal gown boutique, my very own cosmetics line, as well my nonprofit organization, the 815 makeover movement and now, for the first time here doing this Voyage interview, I am excited to announce I am bringing my bridal and beauty boutiques to LA! That’s right, in 2023 I will officially be a west coast CEO with my family and I couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of the community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the thing I struggled with most was opening my companies during the pandemic. I had never worked in a salon or bridal boutique, so to take on the responsibility of a new business owner on top of doing it during one of the most fear-driven and painful times in our nation was challenging. My faith, my self-worth, my health & my confidence were all tested. All of my booked dates were canceled, I lost loved ones to the virus, my husband was working nonstop as an essential worker creating hospital bed parts as the demand was at an all-time high. It was a scary time for everyone. But I am so thankful to have my health, my children’s health, my team’s health and just to have made it. God is good and I am so grateful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional makeup artist, Annētta Michelle known as makeupbyannetta on social media. I become a licensed esthetician so that I could truly understand the anatomy of the skin, how to properly sanitize and disinfect, how to detect skin disease and medical issues in my clients to recommend them to a specialist, etc. I am proud to have gone to school and spent the time and funds to learn all of that and more, to truly be a “professional” and to honestly be able to provide my clients with top-notch service. That is something I am very proud of.

What you may not know is that on top of owning my own salons “Haute The Luxe Beauty House”, “Beauty on the Terrace” coming soon “Haute & Honey California” and my bridal Boutique “Haute Bridal Official” I also have a feel love for broadcasting and journalism. I am currently a journalism student and plan to bring a new look to “makeup and microphones”. You’ll just have to stay tuned for that! Hehe

How do you think about luck?
As a woman of faith, I do not believe in luck. I believe that when we ask for His will to be done in our life…it is. I believe I am right where I am supposed to be every moment. Whether it is a blessing or a lesson, I’m ready for it. Gratitude is everything for me.
