Today we’d like to introduce you to Adouria.
Hi Adouria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well my grandma raised me and threw me in theatre at a young age. So performing was always natural for me. I think I’ve always been funny, there’s nothing more satisfying than making a group of people laugh. I went to a comedy show downtown and thought “I think I could do this”. My roommate pushed me to do my first open mic. I caught a “bug”, once you start it’s hard to stop.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Comedy is never a smooth road. No matter how long you’ve been doing comedy, there will always be a joke that falls or a night you bomb. It’s an art based on people’s opinions which isn’t exactly stable. Comedy is subjective.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a comedian. I’m not sure what I’m known for, I’m still kind of a nobody haha, so time will tell. I’d like to be known for my candor, my dryness. But that’s up to the audience, I guess. I think what sets me apart is I try to be as honest as possible. Another comedian once told me, “you know you can lie up there”. I just think that’s boring. Life is funny and weird, life is material enough. I like to tell stories that actually happened and what my honest thoughts are.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First my grandma, who raised me and gave me my sense of humor. She put me in theatre at a young age which has helped me become so comfortable on stage making comedy natural for me.
My friend Isaac Gonzalez who is like a brother to me. He’s never stopped believing in me or roasting me. It’s very important to have someone who can do both, and they are very hard to find. Every joke or bit I’ve written, I’ve run by him. He’s honest with me.
My roommate and best friend Miranda Lopez who I simply could not do life without. She pushed me to do my first open mic and it has led to so much and continues to. She reminds me that I am human, that I can still be funny while feeling my feelings and talking about them.
God for making me funny.
