Life and Work with Jordan Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Nguyen.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey as a performer started pretty young. I was 8 years old when I took my first dance class, and now I’m 18 years old and working as a professional dancer and actress in LA. I’ve been fortunate to be able to perform in music videos, commercials, and live events. Some of my most memorable opportunities have been to compete on the stage of NBC’s World of Dance Season 2, and performing live in front of over 16,000 people at the Forum at We Day.

On a regular day, I juggle being a college student, while also auditioning and performing in LA. I love to joke around about how I lead a double life…half student, half aspiring entertainer.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Balancing all my responsibilities as a student and as a dancer/actress has been very challenging. When I began, I still wanted to enjoy my high school experience, for example, go to school dances and hit up the beach with friends. This conflicted with my obligations in the city that helped me grow in the industry. Often, I would get frustrated with myself for not being able to just do it all! I think that many young women face this problem of self-blame over things and situations that we don’t always have control over. As I grew older and graduated from high school, I learned to have patience with myself and with my journey. I’m realizing that the enjoyment is in the journey.

Please tell us about your work.
Since I’m working in the entertainment industry, social media plays a big role in my career. I utilize my social platforms to show people my work, hobbies, fashion style, and personality. My posts consist of dance, makeup, sneakers, ootds, and fun projects that I’m working on in the industry. I get to show what it’s like going to auditions, being on set, and training at world-famous studios. What I love about all of this is the chance to hopefully inspire other younger girls who, just like me, want to pursue their big dreams.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women are able to do anything and everything a man can do. Women are using these large social media platforms to connect with other women and get people talking about the things in our world that need to be discussed. Media is allowing women to inspire other women to feel more empowered and go after what they want without limitations.
