Life and Work with Jennifer Cervelli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Cervelli.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a small town outside the suburbs of Philadelphia and I have been creating art my whole life. I fell in love with metalsmithing while attending the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. The beauty of the South inspired many of my first designs and throughout my travels, I draw inspiration for the JC jewelry lines. After graduating from SCAD in 2007 with a BFA in metals and jewelry, I moved to the Bay Area, where I worked for a few prestigious jewelry designers gaining tremendous bench experience while perfecting my fabrication skills. After about 4 years in San Fransisco and Oakland, I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to focus on developing my own jewelry line, while spending time with family and close friends as my sister and father live in Colorado. I now call LA home here in Hermosa Beach, where the JCJ Studio is right next to the gorgeous Pacific Ocean.

JCJ is passionate about cultivating a more ethical, transparent and sustainable jewelry industry. All of our products are handmade with only recycled metals, conflict free precious gemstones and promotes sustainability through green business practices. Yes, jewelry is an object of beautiful adornment but it is also an object of deeper meaning. Jewelry can be inspiring. It can carry a message. And most importantly, it can be powerful. Our goal is to strengthen the power of their wearers.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road but I do believe I would not be where I am today if the road had been easy. One of my favorite quotes inspired the anchor necklace design and it goes “a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” I love this quote because I really believe that challenges and struggles help shape us into strong, motivated individuals. My advise to the other young women out there is to keep your head up and follow your instincts, they will always prove to lead you down the best path.

Please tell us about Jennifer Cervelli Jewelry.
I am a fine jewelry designer who creates timeless, whimsical jewelry that’s rustic, ethical and highly well-crafted for earth-conscious, free spirits because we believe in empowering others while saving the earth!

I specialize in custom and bridal jewelry, using only recycled precious metals, conflict-free diamonds, and eco-friendly gemstones.

All jewelry is proudly 100% handmade in Hermosa Beach, right outside of Los Angeles.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I do believe women are in the spotlight right now and so this is the time to motivate and take chances on your dreams. Women have a special drive that is fueled by desire to achieve. Right now is a great time for us women to use our voices and share our creative passions.

These pieces from Jennifer Cervelli Jewelry are so beautiful! I own several necklaces and rings and they are so well made! I’ve got my eye on a few more things to purchase.
