Life and Work with Amy Perdigone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Perdigone.

Amy, please share your story with us.
The Traveling Stylist was born in the Bay area in 2007 with only 1 stylist/owner. As our name indicates, we travel on-location all over (mostly Northern) California.  As a woman who is biracial, it was very important to me that I really studied hair and skin for women of color and a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Having our roots in San Francisco, this provided countless opportunities to work with a variety of women. Heather Camp was my first assistant and, as our business quickly grew, so did her role, as she is now our  Master Stylist. Today, we have grown to a team of 9 amazingly talented stylists and assistants who are sprinkled across the Bay, Davis and Sacramento area. All are MAC trained by the owner/operator, Amy Perdigone and Heather. Each stylist has their own unique aesthetic super-power and all are trained to specialize in working with a variety of hair/skin. We pride our team on the level of service we give to all our clients. From start to finish, clients/brides receive prompt communication, clear policies and procedures and are matched with warm, genuine and talented stylists!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, it has not always been a smooth road to success! They say each mistake is an opportunity for growth -and in over 10-years of business we have certainly had our fair share of growth-spurts! If you allow yourself/business to learn from the countless bumps that come up along the way… you will allow your business to flourish and grow in all the right ways!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Traveling Stylist – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a hair and makeup business, so our artists are dynamic. Heather is an magician with curly hair. Adela can transform any face/hair to a “classic” Hollywood. Tori can make any skin-type glow. Angelina is as versatile with her skills as they come. Angelica is a hair sculpturist and Sheryl will take any eyes and make them pop!  We go on-location and specialize in a niche market– bridal hair and makeup, so our artists make it extra-convenient for clients/brides. And, since we know the unique needs of brides, we take special care in making sure to match them up with a stylist who will not just beautify –but personalize their exciting experience.  What sets us apart from other bridal hair and makeup artists, is that you are hiring a team to service your hair and makeup needs from start to finish. With the widespread Youtube and Google, we know anyone can learn how to do hair and makeup, so we set ourselves apart by becoming expert-listeners! Our stylists are highly trained to practice active listening and communicating back everything they hear our clients/brides request. Aesthetics are not always easy to describe, so we take time in this part of the process, to ensure we deliver exactly what is desired. Lastly, we provide premium service by communicating with our clients every step of the way…we know this niche market well, so we take all the guess-work out of the booking process for you!

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Growing up with two sisters and always playing dress-up definitely set-the-stage for becoming a hair and makeup artist! And undoubtedly, my mother’s inherent hardworking nature was the blueprint to understanding that, just because I’m a woman, this doesn’t afford me the luxury of laziness: get down, get dirty and get the job done!
