Today we’d like to introduce you to Carin.
Hi Carin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am an esthetician located in Koreatown, Los Angeles. I used to work for corporate for seven years before making a career switch to a beautician. The first job I got out of college was in the accounting department at a small engineering firm and stayed there for about five years.
When I saw my friends working for big companies, I always felt that I wasn’t getting the full corporate culture and life. I then moved to a bank which had the corporate culture life I wanted, but I still felt really unfulfilled and unhappy. I knew then that it wasn’t the job, it was me. So I started thinking of ways to work for myself and decided that I would go the e-commerce route selling Korean skincare. I then thought that if I wanted to sell skincare, I should know about the skin so that’s when I decided to go to esthetician school. When I started school, I realized I loved it so much, I decided to pursue just being an esthetician. I was really lucky because I was able to start my business at my dads acupuncture clinic. It was there I was able to create my own facials, menu, interior decor and build my website. My family was the greatest support system that helped launch my business to where it is today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road was definitely not smooth. I graduated esthetician school and as I was trying to start my business, Covid hit. The several lockdowns really hindered starting the business and I had to just be positive throughout the whole way. During that period of time it was really trying as a new business owner. However, it wasn’t all bad because I was really able to take my time to launch my business and set everything up.

My industry will progress even more. Nowadays, having good skin, no make up, and bare face is in. Good skin is always in and nothing feels better than having clear skin. When you have good skin, your make up goes on better, pictures come out better, and overall you feel good. I think having one day the no make up will start to trend.
