Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Dawn.
Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my first business at age 8 when I started an apple stand because I thought a lemonade stand was so “yesterday”. I went on to start my first software company at 23 doing Point of Sale software systems for waterparks and ski resorts. I then bought a log home company which failed miserably and then took a job in corporate for a $54M manufacturing company.
Corporate was the most toxic environment I’d ever experienced and so I went back out on my own. I was asked to lead a national network of entrepreneurs and that’s where I found my passion for coaching. I started my business coaching practice and have been going strong for a decade.
I am now the founder of Jennifer Dawn Coaching, creator of the Best Planner Ever, author of The Joy Guide: Finding Your Joy in a World of Crap, and host of the Happy Productive Podcast.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road. I’ve been through every struggle and challenge imaginable but have always overcome. I’ve worked round the clock to install a client’s system, flown a red eye in a middle seat seven months pregnant, been a single mom of three while working a toxic corporate job, been screwed over by my partner, and on food stamps to feed my kids when I had to start over.
While I would not wish those struggles on another, I am grateful, because everything I had to overcome has helped me to now be able to shorten the curve of another.
I definitely feel like the worst is behind me and the road ahead looks very promising.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a business coach, author, and speaker. Last year I was speaking at the She Leads Conference in New York and during the conference, I learned that less than 5% of businesses ever cross the seven-figure mark. I was really shocked by this stat. I’ve done it 3 times and just thought everyone else had too.
I’ve shifted my practice to help business owners beat this stat. Even if you don’t want to hit seven figures in your business so many at least want to get to a place where they are not working a ton of hours and have financial peace and security.
That’s what we do. We support business owners at every stage and in every area of their life. We provide coaching but we also have a marketing agency so it’s not just talking about marketing, we actually help them execute. I think that’s what sets us apart. Is being in the trenches with our clients, right there supporting their success every step of the way with coaching, content, and community that makes a difference.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I’m a believer this is always enough for everyone and I only see the industry growing, changing, and evolving in a positive way.
