Inspiring Conversations with Damian Jorden of Phynally

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damian Jorden.

Hi Damian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey began when I was in college. At 21, I started my first business, a magazine for college students looking for an alternative to the school newspaper. Our early success led us to being offered a publishing and distribution deal and we even got to feature Angela Simmons on our cover. As my first taste of business, I loved every minute of it. After running the magazine for a year. I decided to learn public relations, business management, marketing, and accounting. With the help of Angela and these new skills, I decided to venture off and start my own PR firm at 23. Over the next 15 years, I was able to build and maintain a vast array of professional clients across the NFL, NBA, and entertainment industries. After some time at my firm, I was considering going to work for a larger firm and during that time, I began using cannabis for my mental health. However, This posed a new issue now: Will I have to stop taking my medicine for a job, and which employers screen for marijuana use? It was at that moment that I realized millions of people across the country didn’t have access to jobs based on what type of medicine they were consuming. This is what motivated me to create Phynally, the World’s First Job search engine for Medical Marijuana patients and cannabis consumers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think thats the beauty in dealing with challenges. Challenges provide us a great opportunity to practice patience, persistence, and that the obstacles we face daily are just detours in the right direction. One of my initial challenges was how do I build a tech company with no experience in technology? That’s when I decided to lean on my experience and strengths and start looking at other successful founders who had built companies in the same similar situation as me. This allowed me to look at obstacles and challenges as things to overcome vs something that holds you back.

Phynally is the World’s First Job search engine for Medical Marijuana patients and cannabis consumers. We Inclusively host Employers who do not screen for Marijuana or who have dropped Marijuana screening from their drug testing panel.

Our platform helps connect a population of job seekers and employers who are unaware of the opportunities that are available to them within the job market. Employers are incentivized to modify their outdated hiring practices to meet the changing hiring landscape as well as access a completely new talent pool.
