Hidden Gems: Meet Zach Binder of Bell + Ivy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Binder.

Hi Zach, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Los Angeles. After attending college in the midwest and some career discovery in San Francisco, I landed back in LA in 2012, where I focused my career on marketing and business. I became a partner at an agency in Santa Monica that was successfully sold in 2015 to a national healthcare provider. As part of the acquisition, I took an executive position with the new company before co-founding my own agency, Bell + Ivy. Bell + Ivy is a marketing communications firm based in Los Angeles.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
If starting your own business is a smooth road, then you’re doing it wrong. The best way to grow, learn, and be successful is to fail forward. For me, struggles along the way have typically fallen into two buckets. I call the first bucket “Pragmatic problems”. These are problems that usually have an identifiable solution but require some critical thinking or enlisting the help of someone or something to find a solution to the problem. Financial, logistical, and operational problems usually fall in this bucket. The other bucket is what I refer to as “Perception problems”. Perception problems typically involve issues with people or personalities. Problems with negotiation, forecasting, and assumptions usually fall in this bucket and they may not have an identifiable solution to the problem. These problems require one to make a sound decision based on good judgment and see it all the way through, knowing that it may fail.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
