Hidden Gems: Meet Linden Schaffer of Wander Home

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linden Schaffer.

Hi Linden, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a serial entrepreneur and wellness thought leader who found her calling in 2008. I credit growing up in the midwest (and my folks of course) with giving me a solid foundation and a value-aligned purpose. Those things helped me a lot when I moved to NYC at 18 and began working in the glamorous yet tortured fashion industry. Each part of the industry I conquered: event production, talent scouting and development, sales, marketing, management and more, taught me new skills and prepared me to become an entrepreneur. When I launched my first business, Pravassa in 2009, I created a new travel category—wellness tourism— which allowed me to bring together two of my lifelong passions: traveling the world and well-being. In March 2020, that business came to a screeching halt as the COVID pandemic shut down the travel industry. At this time, I founded my second business, the Wander Home series, and started consulting. Wander Home brings multiple health and well-being modalities to you via a streaming platform. It’s been extremely fulfilling to be part of the movement, both through Wander Home and consulting, that is democratizing access to wellness and showing more diversity on screen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, it’s been a bumpy road. But this is how you learn about yourself both as a person and as a leader. There have been challenges in every area you can imagine from choosing the wrong accountant and hiring folks who were a bad cultural fit to being in a position where one person could have put me out of business and having your view misrepresented in the press. The important part, entrepreneur or not, is not to let these challenges crush you, as hard as that may be. Instead, you need to find the lesson and vow to move forward and not repeat the same path again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I spend my days thinking about and talking to people who are asking the same questions about how to be more inclusive, democratize access, and decolonize all aspects of the wellness industry. I developed the Wander Home Series to begin addressing these issues and so that people around the world could experience healing and self-care anytime in any place. The incredible team of well-being experts featured in the series has have touched the lives of thousands and opened doors for personal growth and transformation helping people to expand, evolve, and explore the fundamental practices of well-being: through breath, movement, mindfulness, and nourishment.

Additionally, my consulting work in the areas of wellness, mindfulness, and transformational experiences allows me to talk to and work with entrepreneurs and startup founders who also spend their days thinking of ways to address these initiatives.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Wellness has been and will continue to be a big area of focus and exploration over the next decade. As an umbrella term that encompasses a variety of industries, think: fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, sleep, financial, and workplace just to name a few, coupled with the last 18-months of the pandemic, the industry is set for explosive growth. The newest upcoming areas will continue to be in connected fitness, real estate, music for well-being, and psychedelics/plant-based medicine.
