Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been passionate about doing makeup on my friends and sisters long before I learned how to tattoo a face. What I loved most about it was seeing their reactions after I finished the transformation! At the time, it never occurred to me that this interest could be anything more. I thought that joyful hobbies and making money were strictly compartmentalized, but that paradigm shifted when I took a leap of faith in 2017 to start Effortless PMU. I built my business slowly by leading with joy and integrity everyday. Four years later, I have a strong and consistent client base as well as a fun work environment all thanks to these values.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The way I see it struggles only benefitted me and my business. Of course, there were some tough times, the hardest of which was the beginning of the pandemic, but I don’t believe that adversities happen just to work against me. Starting out in the permanent makeup industry, some common struggles include finding clients, imposter syndrome, and balancing work-life. Working through these difficulties helped me to expand as a person and gain confidence as an entrepreneur. I also knew that starting a business wouldn’t be problem-free, and I welcome those that have yet to come. As long as I see problems as a necessity to grow, the road is always going to be smooth.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Effortless PMU?
I provide permanent makeup services which include eyebrow tattoo, lip blush, and eyeliner tattoo. My signature look is natural and timeless, complimenting my client’s features rather than being dark and pronounced. Some clients, though, do want to have an “on fleek” look and I am transparent in the consultation process, letting them know this is not the style that I typically provide. I also train and certify upcoming PMU artists. In the training, I go over everything needed to succeed- theory, technique, business management and most importantly, lifetime mentorship.
I’m most proud that my business and brand is truly reflected by our name, Effortless. To me, an effortless lifestyle means knowing what is not meant for you and being secure so you don’t have to prove your worth to anyone but yourself. What I want for my clients is to feel confident when they look in the mirror and not put in more effort than they need to feel great about themselves. So many industries feed messages that what you have now is not enough, I consciously affirm the opposite to myself. The beauty industry is always changing, and my presence in it is a force for good.
