Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s a pleasure to be here! I’m Alex Beattie, longtime Angeleno and co-founder of the Divide & Thrive Divorce Organizer. When I was going through my divorce I was desperate to connect with people who had been where I was, and hungry for hope and tips to make my experience easier. I got myself organized early and it helped keep me focused on what was important to me and saved me money in billable hours. People started reaching out to me to ask if I’d talk to their friends who were going through their own splits, so I started sharing everything I did. One of those friends was Jenny Pithie, my Divide & Thrive partner. We saw a real need in the marketplace for a divorce planner that gets people organized for divorce by dealing with the emotional side and the business side of the experience. Jenny and I spent countless hours meeting with divorce attorneys, mediators and financial planners to create a divorce planner that sets people up for success. We’re both working mom’s so the pandemic shutdown gave us the opportunity to focus on creating our product and launching our company, Divide & Thrive.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the biggest challenges were navigating social media and handling the tech side of a business start-up. Luckily my partner Jenny and my skill sets complement each other so we’ve been able to figure out challenges together. My experience as a creative producer and Jenny’s as a brand and marketing consultant really came in handy as we built our business. Creating social media content that gives people useable tips, support and humor is the secret sauce to finding customers who can really benefit from your product.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
When people are considering divorce the first question they have is “where do I start?”. The Divide & Thrive Divorce Organizer makes it easy by taking the guesswork out of how to prepare for a divorce. The planner walks the user through how to set divorce goals, organize their essential documents and figure out their financial realities. All of which saves save them time and money in attorney’s fees and it gives them peace of mind during a challenging time. The D&T Divorce Organizer is a digital file that can be printed out and put into a binder or used on an iPad or computer so it’s portable. Everthing you need to address when going through a divorce — right at your fingertips!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Divide & Thrive’s goal is to empower people during a challenging time. Creating a business from a personal experience is the riskiest thing I’ve ever done. Sharing my divorce story with people going through their own splits is an incredibly rewarding. Having to put your vulnerabilities and insecurities front and center can feel overwhelming at times, but helping people makes it so worthwhile.
