Today we’d like to introduce you to Tali Mizrachi.
Hi Tali, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We created EzPacking with a mission to help moms stay organized when traveling. Our goal was to make packing stress-free and more fun – because let’s be honest, it’s usually the least enjoyable part of traveling!
It all started back in 2014 when Monica (Salo’s mom) was helping her daughter pack for college. She couldn’t find a product that fit her daughter’s needs. So she decided to design the products she imagined. In 2015, EzPacking was born! We started out selling our clear packing cubes in farmer’s markets (not so fun) then ventured into online selling (including building our own website and selling on Amazon). We’ve come a long way since then! From using our parents’ garage as a warehouse to now renting a 30,000 square foot warehouse (shared with a few other businesses). From a one-woman show to having our own awesome girl boss team (remote work FTW). From a handful of products to a full collection of clear travel accessories!
It’s been a wild but super exciting ride and we’re thrilled for the future ahead. Now I manage the business with the help of my husband, Salo (who has since stepped down as co-founder of EzPacking). We’re still a small, family business but we’ve added four more amazing people to our team (+ our cute customer service manager, Lucy 🐶).
Today we’ve organized thousands of suitcases around the world. Aside from our website, we have thousands of 5-star reviews on Amazon. Moms, families, couples and even solo travelers love our clear packing cubes and found them helpful for their trips!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! Challenges are part of the deal and the only thing you can do is pivot, pivot, pivot (as Ross would say… 😂)
Our biggest struggle was probably in 2020, back when COVID hit the world. We were hit particularly hard because travel came to a halt and we, obviously, sell travel products. We had just hired a new team member and we did not want to lay off anyone from our existing team. Additionally, we were stuck in New Zealand and couldn’t go back home where it would be easier to figure out the next steps. We ended up living there for 1.5 yrs and running the business from our computers. That’s a story for another time though…
Thankfully, with a change in our strategies and with the team’s amazing efforts, we were able to push through the pandemic and actually come out stronger. Now that travel is back again, our revenue is growing even faster than pre-covid pace and we hope to expand our business even more in the future. Travel is back!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
EzPacking is a small, family-operated business out of San Diego, California with our main warehouse in San Bernardino. Our clear packing cubes + other travel accessories make suitcase organization a breeze!
Packing is usually not the most exciting part of any trip. Our aim is to help travelers (especially families) tame their messy suitcases so they can spend more time enjoying rather than packing. Thanks to our cubes’ clear design, it’s easier to see what you packed inside without rooting through the entire suitcase.
Our best-seller, the Starter Set (set of 4 cubes) is a fan favorite for good reason! If you travel carry-on only, this packing cube set is perfect for 1 week of clothing. It comes in fun colors like lilac, turquoise and rose. Aside from the clear design, our cubes are also more structured and rigid compared to other packing cube brands. This makes them perfect to use as ‘traveling drawers’ or for stacking vertically in your suitcase.
We’re very proud of how far we’ve come! Often we receive emails from customers telling us how our cubes changed their life and how they’re so much more organized. We also receive repeat customers who love our products so much they buy more to give to their friends and family. These very simple things make what we do so worth it. Knowing that our cubes have transformed the way people approach packing and traveling with their families is all we can ask for!
What were you like growing up?
Since I was able to walk, I was dancing on tables. My younger self was a carefree, wild child who loved to run around and hula hoop all day long. As I grew up and focused on school in middle and high school, I became very dedicated to getting good grades and following the normal ‘get into college’ path. However, school was always hard for me and never felt inspired by being inside the classroom. My passion and priority became dancing above everything else. I would train 4-5 hours after school every day.
I pursued dance seriously, attending UCLA as a Dance Major and then dancing professionally for companies & music videos in the commercial industry for a few years after college. I always considered myself a creative, someone who would pursue a life outside the 9-5 desk life. However, after a major injury (falling off a stage) my dance career was brought to a halt and I was forced to choose a different path. My boyfriend at the time (now husband and business partner, Salo) was starting up a packing cube company (EzPacking) and needed help with customer emails and things. I offered to help out part-time. This was the start of my e-commerce business journey! We worked together for a few years and he taught me about the business. Never in a million years did I think I would be running the company a few years later! I laugh now because I usually work 10-6 (or 8, 9, 10pm) at a desk… but we are so lucky to live this life of freedom and endless possibilities with our own business. And yes, I am fully healed and still dance 2x/week after work for fun now!
