Exploring Life & Business with Nolwenn Richard of Cabane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nolwenn Richard.

Hi Nolwenn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the owner of Cabane, an online floral studio based in Newport Beach, California. Originally from France, I moved to Orange County with my husband and our two young children three years ago. Before starting Cabane, I worked for many years in international sales & marketing for top Beauty & Lifestyle brands and in Travel Retail.

Flowers have always had a special place in my heart. In France, flowers are an important part of our social and self-care language. We give flowers for occasions like birthdays or anniversaries of course, we bring flowers (and wine) when we are invited to a dinner party, we usually grab a fresh flowers bouquet for home on Saturday mornings when we go to the market and it is very trendy to have a flower subscription and to get flowers delivered to your home every month.

When I moved to Southern California, I could not find the floral aesthetics and experiences I was looking for. I decided to learn how to make my own arrangements. What started as a hobby grew into a passion for floral design.

I also became more aware of what was happening behind the scenes. More specifically that over 80% of the flowers we find in the US are imported from all over the world.

I decided to start Cabane to offer my own flower signature, a combination of French style, art, emotions and sustainability.

Flowers have a special power, they make people happy, it is actually hard to find someone who doesn’t like flowers. They are more than nice to look at, they are objects of desire, memories and emotions. I wanted to find a way to make them shine and craft a memorable experience around flowers. I also wanted to showcase how cool, trendy and fashionable flowers can be.

Cabane ([kaban]) means treehouse in French and it is also an anagram of my kid’s names. Cabane aims at delivering emotions through the experience of beauty. We offer flowers inspired by the French aesthetics and by all the things I love, travel, fashion, art and nature. We are also advocates for a sustainable and eco-friendly floristry. We only use American-grown flowers and absolutely no plastic. What is very special about Cabane is that we work with a community of Artists to co-create collections of Art and Flowers to offer unique and memorable floral gifts.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I founded Cabane a few months ago so it is still early days. It has definitely not been a smooth road but it is all so worth it. It does require perseverance, hard work and dedication. Despite all the challenges, it is incredibly rewarding to do something you really love and to feel you are contributing to bring a little bit of happiness to others. I am incredibly grateful for all the support I get and all the amazing people I meet who are so inspirational and helpful. A special thanks goes to my friends and family who have really helped making this dream come true.

Now the main challenge is to grow our community of flower lovers, be more visible and keep promoting sustainable floristry and communicate about the values we stand for. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to showcase Cabane!

As you know, we’re big fans of Cabane. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Cabane is an online floral studio based in Newport Beach, California. We offer flower delivery services and (bi)monthly flower subscriptions.

French-inspired, California-made, we design unique, stylish and sustainable garden-style bouquets and floral gifts.

Our objective is to deliver emotions through the experience of beauty. All our bouquets are carefully hand-tied in the studio and gift-wrapped.

We combine the French aesthetics of flowers with a pinch of Fashion, a zest of Art and lots of sustainability.

We are members of the slow flower society and promote locally-grown flowers. We don’t import any flowers; all our flowers are American-grown and seasonal. Our packaging is sustainable (either recyclable, compostable or reusable).

What truly sets us apart in the flower market is our Art collaborations. Blooming Emotions is a series of collaborations between Cabane and artists. In each “rendez-vous”, an artist creates a unique illustration to share her vision of flowers and the emotions they bring to our lives. We co-create a collection of seasonal bouquets, lifestyle accessories, art print and giftwrap around her work for a unique gift.

Merci et a bientôt!
