Exploring Life & Business with Jordan Wolan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Wolan.

Jordan Wolan

Hi Jordan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a hypnotherapist, a sound healing facilitator, a Reiki Master, and Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapist in Los Angeles. I’m originally from New York and came out to LA a few years after 9/11, where I’ve been ever since. I always knew I was meant to do something off the beaten path and never expected I’d end up here! I’ve always been interested in personal development and transformative experiences, and LA is a great place for that.

In 2014, I discovered Reiki and Hypnotherapy at the same time, and I fell in love with these modalities. I started training at HMI College of Hypnotherapy in Tarzana, which it turned out was right down the street from where I lived at the time, and I began a private practice. I became very obsessed with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) after a class on Ericksonian hypnosis. I’m now in my eighth year and loving it!

During the pandemic times, I experienced a lot of growth and completely embraced doing sessions in the virtual space. I was also able to expand into 2 new areas: Mindfulness Based Psychedelic Therapy and sound healing. I work specifically with cannabis as a psychedelic, which has the amazing benefit of being legal, accessible, and cost-effective for those who are interested in exploring plant medicine for a wide range of uses. The modalities I use complement each other really well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some struggles I’ve faced include being in NY during 9/11 and feeling the after effects of that traumatic time, and then arriving in Los Angeles right as the 2008 recession hit. LA is not an easy town, but it feels like you can find anything you need here. I worked for a time in the entertainment industry, behind the scenes. After job cuts and the end of a relationship, I went through an incredibly dark period. During this time, I found reiki and hypnotherapy, and it was through this personal work and having an amazing mentor that I was able to come out on the other side and rebuild my confidence and thrive. I’m extremely grateful that I found hypnotherapy when I did and that it’s possible to do this as a career and I find a lot of joy in helping others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I create safe spaces for people to focus on what they want, become more in control and make positive changes in their lives. Some clients see me for a specific goal; for example they want to stop smoking, or they have a debilitating fear of needles or public speaking, or they can’t stop pulling out their hair. Most of my individual clients see me first for hypnosis, although lately there’s been a huge interest in cannabis-assisted journeywork.

All sessions are customized to the individual, and in the very first session we do some testing for suggestibility so they understand how it can work for them. I have a lot of repeat clients that come back to work on other things once the original concern has been resolved. A common theme is getting unstuck, letting go of the past, and having more control, confidence, focus and joy.

My clients reflect a diverse range of interests and perspectives, including the LGBTQ+ and kink community, and those in non-traditional relationships. Sometimes folks are just looking for a place where they won’t be judged or have to educate their therapist about their lifestyle and can just focus on the healing process. I also work with an organization called Pineapple Support, which offers support and therapy to creators and producers in the adult entertainment industry.

Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to offering more community events in some new spaces, with my sound baths and conscious cannabis circles. I eventually want to expand into working with other plant medicines when they become legal. In the meantime so many people are starting to explore psychedelics and are in need of integration support. This work should be accessible to all who need it and can be part of a personal support system. I don’t think any one of these things is a  magic fix-it pill, but it’s all about the journey, and you have to have a holistic perspective to stay grounded and resilient in these times. One of my big goals is to travel more and do this work in other places around the world.
