Exploring Life & Business with Jonathan Brown of TFMA – The Free Minded Accounting Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Brown.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always played basketball… played in high school, some college, brief stint at College of Charleston and had dreams of playing professionally but couldn’t get back onto a team after transferring to Arizona State.

I took a more business-minded approach and decided to major in economics and eventually got my master’s in accounting. Given some of old my teammates and friends, who currently are professional players now, and the connections I had to sports… it made for a smooth transition. I stuck close to the games I love while still being able to work in my profession and help really make a difference in these guys lives.

I’ve been working for a firm based out of Beverly Hills for two years now, but I also service clients such as barbers, real estate professionals, sports agents, political consultants, and many more thru my firm TFMA. I started that back on 2019.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Hasn’t been easy… I moved a couple of times in the past year, had to do some self-reflection and re/prioritize the things I felt were needed in life. Also had to view my situation and circumstances differently… A lot of self-reflection and self-help has allowed for me to service my clients better and build meaningful relationships outside of work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Main services are Bookkeeping and Reporting

Really have a passion for helping people. Went to school initially to work as a psychologist or therapist but what I’ve learned over the past few years is that my skills and profession has allowed me a way into people’s lives in ways that I didn’t initially envision.

I also take pride in being black-owned firm. Giving back and teaching my people is important to me. I want to make financial services, being an accountant a cool and enticing career for young boys who come from where I come from
