Exploring Life & Business with Jessica Stamm of Healthy Medium Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Stamm.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I became interested in nutrition at the end of high school where I began to battle issues with binge eating and negative body image. I went on to study nutrition and psychology in college. After that, I worked in many different facets of the nutrition field including private practice, hospital settings, prenatal and postpartum care, child nutrition, public health and culinary. After gathering over ten years of experience and having two children of my own, I knew that I wanted to start up my own nutrition counseling business. I had had it on the back burner for a while, but when I officially launched Healthy Medium Nutrition, I knew that I wanted it to be geared towards non-diet and intuitive eating. My goal was to help people find peace with food and create a positive body image for themselves; which was a lesson that took a long time for myself to discover and it’s an uphill battle in today’s weight-obsessed culture!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be a nutrition counselor, focusing on the psychology behind nutrition. It was hard to find that avenue in career options though. Most dietitian jobs are weight/diet focused, hospital-based or geared towards a certain medical condition in particular. I had to work in many positions to come to where I am today. I also went through becoming a dietitian while pregnant with our first child, which was no cakewalk!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Healthy Medium Nutrition was created to be a source for those looking for health but without the fad diets or emphasis on weight loss. Health is so much more that a number on the scale and nutrition should be personalized. I love helping clients find joy in eating again and finding simple ways to add mindfulness into daily schedules.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love La Crescenta because it feels like a hidden gem of LA. We are close to the beach, city life, theme parks, great restaurants and more but without the traffic grind! My favorite local activities are visiting descanso gardens, the zoo and Montrose with my family.
