Exploring Life & Business with Ivory Howard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivory Howard.

Hi Ivory, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a yoga and Pilates instructor that makes it easier for busy, professional women to workout consistently to improve their health and fitness by delivering classes at the time and location they need.

I started my business as a mobile studio. I made it easy for my clients to workout by delivering yoga and Pilates classes to clients at the time and location they needed. What’s easier than having your instructor show up at your door?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although your friends and family love and support you, they may not be able to support you in the way that you need in your business. It’s important to build a network of supportive entrepreneurs in your corner who are rooting for you to succeed, referring clients to you, and open to collaborating with you. I did not always have that until I joined an inclusive community of entrepreneurs. This is the community that I was searching for early in my entrepreneurial endeavors but it did not yet exist. It makes the entrepreneurial pursuit much easier with this kind of support.

I recently went a summit in Puerto Rico with this community. It was great to be able to meet them in person, ask them questions, and bounce ideas off of them. When I returned stateside, I implemented some of these ideas and I’ve already experienced positive changes in my business in just a few weeks. I also continue to keep in touch and collaborate with them.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m on a mission to make sure that more women know that exercise and a plant-based diet can prevent many chronic lifestyle diseases and leading causes of death in the United States. I want to continue to make it easier for women to be active to help them avoid preventable chronic diseases like stroke, diabetes and cancer. And if you have a chronic disease, I want you to know that it’s not hopeless. You can live a long, healthy and active life.

Yoga is a low-impact exercise that require little to no equipment. If you’re unable to run or enjoy other high-impact exercises, you can give yoga a try and still get a great workout. If it’s unsafe for you to walk where you live, you can practice yoga at home. If you’re unable to purchase workout equipment, you can still practice yoga at home without buying a thing. Making yoga more accessible to women, especially women of color, could help meet them meet the recommended CDC guidelines for physical and muscle-strengthening activity and prevent many chronic diseases that plague people of color.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One year, my older sister got me an extra-large tin of popcorn with three different flavors for Christmas. I’m not even a popcorn person but I loved it. I still think about that gift after all these years.
