Exploring Life & Business with Catherine Goldberg of WeedBar LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Goldberg.

Hi Catherine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It started in 2015 in San Francisco. I was doing marketing and consulting for some of the early cannabis brands. These companies were having a nearly impossible time getting in front of consumers who didn’t visit dispensaries.

When recreational cannabis became legal in I knew that people wanted to incorporate cannabis into their big events and I realized that this was a perfect opportunity for brands to make an impression in a joyful and safe setting.

It was the right time and the solution to both of these problems.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest obstacle since cannabis is federally illegal, we can’t advertise like any other company. You have to know you want a WeedBar to find us.

Some venues are also struggling to navigate hosting a WeedBar. It’s often their first time getting this request and it does fall into a gray area which means they say no to err on the side of caution.

There’s still a stigma around cannabis and we’ve had the parents of the bride nix the idea. Although you’ll never see bongs or brownies at our WeedBar this is still what comes to mind for many people.

As you know, we’re big fans of WeedBar LA. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
WeedBar LA curates customized cannabis experiences for private parties. We bring the WeedBar to all kinds of celebrations ranging from birthday parties to weddings. Our WeedBar is elegant and customized for each event so that it seamlessly integrates into the artistic aesthetic and theme. It’s the exact opposite of what comes to mind when you hear stoner. Our most popular offerings include: Smokeless Glass, The Rolled Flight Tasting and Signature Mocktail. We also offer special services including Cannabis Infused Dinners and a non-intoxicating Cannabis Massage from a licensed massage therapist.

The others use bongs and pipes and make their Cannabis Bar the center of attention. We don’t do that. Everything we serve is absolutely microdosed so no one ever gets too high. There’s just a lot of laughter and love. Every event should have a WeedBar. You’d be surprised how many people not only enjoy it but come back for seconds, thirds and fourths! Including the grandparents!

Most proud: We did influencer Indy Blue’s wedding. In addition to the WeedBar, we made two vintage white wedding cakes. One cannabis-infused, the other not. It was called “the cake of the century.”

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’m exactly the same person I was as a child. I was curious – about everything. I loved asking questions. I had a hard time in school and it took a long time to figure out how my brain works best. I played the drums. I went to magic camp every summer and did a class project on Harry Houdini.

I started my first business when I was 12. I bought a scanner online and went door to door and asked neighbors if I could scan their photos just in case a hurricane came and destroyed all those memories. I always liked identifying and solving problems.
