Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Elbaum.
Hi Amy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up very close with my grandmother who was an interior designer and she exposed me to the world of textiles and furnishings. After graduating college I moved to New York and started a job in media planning. A few years in I knew something was missing and I decided to go back to school at Parsons and get my degree in interior design. I was then hired by my professor to work at his architecture and design firm and I worked there for several years absorbing all the information I could. In 2013, I went on my own to start AE Design in New York. After having my first child in 2015, my family and I relocated to Los Angeles and we are now in our 9th year of busienss.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It certainly has not. My biggest challenge was closing down my business and restarting again in Los Angeles where I knew very little about the design community and had a far smaller network. It took me a few years to adjust and build up an entirely new clientelle.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about AE Design?
We specialize in high end residential interiors. Our general aesthetic is modern yet cozy but we tailor our designs to our client’s specific needs and preferences. We are known to take risks with pattern and color but also have done some beautiful neutral spaces. We are a small firm and only take on the projects that are a perfect fit for us so we can really give our all to our clients. We have some amazing jobs in the works right now and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
That is a tough one! Probably visiting my grandparents in Chicago and staying in my grandmother’s amazing home that she decorated with endless antiques from all her travels.
