Today we’d like to introduce you to I.F.B. Studios.
I.F.B. Studios came about through Richard E. Taylor II’s and Ryan N. Taylor’s passion for acting which led into a passion for filmmaking. Born and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Richard (Born May 13th, 1990) and Ryan (Born October 11th, 1994) got started acting at a young age. It was at John Casabalancas acting school in Beverly Hills, CA back in 2007 where both Richard and Ryan were attending that something was placed into Ryan’s spirit to want to start his own film production company/studio. At the time he had no idea how or what it would take, but he figured he would love a place for him to be able to create and act in his own films alongside his older brother Richard. Having both grown up under entrepreneur parents who owned and operated board and care facilities for the mentally disabled along with a private practice for Marriage and Family Therapy, Ryan and Richard were no strangers to the idea of one day having their own business. Ryan saw a path to establishing his own production company when he joined the media ministry at Cathedral of Praise Intl. Ministries at the age of 14. By age 15, Ryan was directing the cameras during both Sunday services from the technical switchboard. This eventually led to Ryan studying film at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and graduating in 2018. While there, Ryan decided to created his own production company called I.F.B. Content in 2017 and began producing content and advertisements for music artist and YouTubers. In addition, Ryan developed a passion for assistant directing, having crewed on/starred in over 20 productions during his time at USC along with playing alto-saxophone as a member of the Spirit of Troy Marching Band. After college Ryan went on to continue Assistant Directing full-time while working as a production assistant for The Late Late Show with James Corden on the side. One day back in the fall of 2018, while assistant directing a production, Ryan invited his brother Richard to come check out the set. The production was shooting at a smaller studio that was run by a young man and his close friend. After meeting and talking with the owner, it was then that the idea for a film studio of their own seemed more like a reality. Fast forward to May 2020 in the mist of the Covid-19 pandemic, both brothers decided to start putting their extra time and focus on researching what they would need in order to secure a warehouse that is suitable for a film studio. The next process was pitching the idea to their family and upon getting the approval and backing, they began location scouting for the perfect place for I.F.B. Studios. It was in November 2020 that they finally found a great home for I.F.B. Studios located in Glendale, California right of the 5 Freeway and Western. Little did they know how intense the construction process would be, however with the grace of God, they were able to get through the process smoothly. The process took about 2 1/2 months to be fully constructed and ready to open. This included combining two warehouses along with and drawing the blueprints for the layout for the offices/rooms. Next, they had to have the cyclorama wall installed and paint the entire studio black. The studio proudly offers a Cyclorama wall perfect for music videos, ample open filming space with tall ceilings, a glam room that is sure to give you the “Old Hollywood” feel, and a green room with all that you need to relax, including a full body massage chair. The studio also offers an in-house prop shop and costume rentals.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? For the most part, yes it has been smoother than one would have expected. The main challenges were finding the right location with ample ceiling height and power as well as advertising the studio. We also faced the challenge of drawing the blueprint for the layout of the studio and deciding the size and specifications for each room.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I.F.B. Studio specializes in Music Videos & Commercials, along with Film and Television. What sets I.F.B. Studios apart is our central location and our unique props such as our king thrown chairs and large rotating turntables perfect for a virtual concert or product advertisement. In addition, our positive work environment and our always-friendly staff set us apart as well.
At the Studio, Ryan oversees the daily operations, developing in-house content, research, and social media while Richard is in charge of the finances, studio promotions and scheduling at our studio along with aiding with the operations. Both also serve as in-house talent for the studio as well.
Outside of the studio, Richard is a working actor which helps keep him fresh and up to date in the industry as well as an asset to productions as they need talent while filming at I.F.B. Studios. Ryan is a Freelance Assistant Director, having worked on over 40 different productions since getting started back in the summer of 2016. Some of his credits include the Netflix released film The Last Whistle, Amazon Prime release, In The Defense Against Tyranny and the HBO released short Fine China.
What we are most proud of is being able to come together as brothers and create something that we are both passionate about and setting up the foundations for a great legacy to be left behind.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
