Exploring Life & Business with Nareg Mouradian of Maestro Development / Maestro Medical

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nareg Mouradian.

Nareg Mouradian is the president and chief executive officer of Maestro Development, LLC, a Southern California development firm that specializes in project and construction management for the healthcare, education, public agency, and real estate industries. Since establishing Maestro Development, Nareg has been depended on to oversee the business development, strategy, and day-to-day operations of the company, as well as provide project management for several cutting-edge developments in Southern California.

In 2020, Nareg started a new company called Maestro Medical that specializes in orchestrating medical equipment with a symphony of services that include procurement, planning, logistics and construction management. Nareg has over 20 years of practical experience and has worked with prominent clients such as Cedars Sinai, Cal Poly Pomona, University of Southern California, Apple, City of Anaheim, and Kaiser Permanente. His inspiration to enter real estate development, project management, and construction management is derived from his diverse background, which includes a role with The Walt Disney Company, where he served as a senior project manager. Nareg, who is of Armenian descent, was born in Ethiopia, grew up in San Francisco, and was educated in Los Angeles. His multinational experiences and background can be credited for the collaborative and mutually inclusive culture that now exists within the Maestro Companies.

Prior to entering the project management industry, Nareg attended California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in construction engineering technology. He then earned an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Chapman University, The George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics. After graduate school, Nareg quickly transitioned through positions of increasing responsibility ultimately leading to the inception of Maestro Development in 2015. Nareg is highly regarded by both colleagues and clients, an achievement he credits to exceptional communication, determination, and a commitment to providing service that far exceeds the industry standard. He is equally ambitious with regard to his personal pursuits and is involved with various fundraising and community organizations. Nareg is also a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and an accredited member of the Leadership of Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). When he is not engaged with professional obligations or philanthropic activities, Nareg enjoys being with his family and staying active by playing basketball, tennis, gym and hiking.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is not always perfect. Like a road, it has many bends, ups and downs, but that’s its beauty. Looking back on my journey, I can definitely connect the dots. However looking forward from the beginning, you cannot. It’s a scary and dangerous road. You need faith and belief in your cause on the journey otherwise you won’t make it. Prior to starting Maestro Development, I always struggled with internal leadership. Not in a way that I pushed back to leadership but more in growth opportunities. Prior to enrolling into Chapman University Executive MBA program, my current employer at the time deterred me from attending. I was with a large construction firm and they wanted me to focus on construction. Which of course, I did but my entrepreneurial fire was burning internally and I knew the Executive MBA would help guide my future business practices. Later on when I worked at some large Fortune 500 firm, I would again have an internal struggle because I didn’t fit into the “cookie-cutter” job description. I quickly learned that in those corporate settings, your efforts have to be conformed and standardized. There really was no creativity or opportunity for growth besides finding ways to climb the corporate ladder for me. Looking back, I learned a lot and did meet some great people along the way. I am truly grateful for those opportunities. The struggles helped me understand who I really was and what I wanted to do. I also realized how strong and determined I was to achieve my dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Maestro Development provides real estate development, project management, and construction management services. We focus on healthcare, government, education, and multi-family assets. Maestro Medical provides a symphony of Medical Equipment services orchestrating procurement, planning, logistics and construction. What sets us apart is that we are able to provide white glove service with our partners and clients with an experienced team. I am most proud that we are not a staffing firm. We truly care about our partners and integrate ourselves within their culture and vision. We provide a free consultation of potential needs by clients. Building trust and relationships unilaterally. Building a business in California and Los Angeles with a proven track record in what we do provides longevity and confidence with our clients. We are truly about the experience and journey.

What matters most to you?
Being a servant leader. Having the opportunity to add value and collaborate with so many great people and company. It’s not about Maestro. It’s about getting the orchestra to play the right tune so that the audience (clients) can have a memorable experience. At the end of the day, you remember the people and experience. Serving those people has lasting value and feeds my soul.
