Hi Evan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Decked Out Geckos is the result of myself, Evan Wooldridge, starting off with just a few geckos then it grew from there. My passion for these animals drove me to create this business, and it will only intensify in the years to come. I take pride in the animals that I produce and vow to always treat them with the utmost respect by never cutting corners. I have a focus on producing high-quality color mutations (similar to different breeds of dog). It brings me joy to be able to help other people regardless if it’s their first pet or even interested in breeding. That same spark that leads me to create Decked Out Geckos and create color combinations that are the first of their kind in the world is the same curiosity I love to plant in others. My podcast Strength In Leos was created in 2019 with one goal in mind: to bring creative content to connect the reptile hobby around what we all love most. This platform strives to educate and bring together some of the most influential minds in herpetoculture today. I believe that we need to keep reaching people with the message of how amazing all animals and, in particular, reptiles are. This show is catered towards Leopard Gecko enthusiasts in herpetoculture and all other members of the reptile community. We want to show off the strength of knowledge we have as a community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh definitely!!! Haha, not at all. The road to achieving success is never as linear or upward sloping as it seems or as you hope. Especially as a younger entrepreneur, you have to work ten times harder just to be noticed or receive the same respect as others in the business who are older. There are a lot of unexpected bumps that come up in the road, especially when working with peers that are very passionate about their work in addition to the ethics of live animals. With breeding Leopard Geckos, it definitely isn’t something you hear about too often, and there are a ton of stigmas when it comes to the traditional “reptile person.” There is also a lot of misunderstanding regarding what I do, from the point of view of family and friends, that I also have to overcome. However, the great Serena Williams said, “That it’s only crazy until you do it.” And with my drive, I hope to continue the envelope by shifting the perspective on the status quo.

At Decked Out Geckos, our mission is to serve those looking for healthy, beautiful and ethically produced Leopard Geckos no matter the level of experience. We strive to produce cutting-edge Leopard Gecko morphs and educate along the way. We believe that we have a responsibility to help others, and we do so in many ways, such as our podcast, Strength In Leos.We are here to leave the reptile world a better place than we found it through the quality of the geckos we produce and holding ourselves higher than the industry standards.
